BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION NO.2014 - (17. 1
Designating the week of April 6—April 12, 2014 as
National Crime Victims' Rights Week
WHEREAS,Americans are victims of more than 22 million crimes each year, and each crime
affects many more family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers;and
WHEREAS, crime can leave a lasting physical, emotional, or financial impact on people of all
ages and abilities, and of all economic, racial, and social backgrounds; and
WHEREAS,victims' rights are a critical component of the promise of"justice for all,"the
foundation for our system of justice in America; and
WHEREAS,National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 6 - 12, 2014,provides an
opportunity to celebrate the energy, creativity, and commitment that launched the victims' rights
movement, inspired its progress, and continues to advance the cause of justice for crime victims; and
WHEREAS, today thousands of victim assistance programs provide help and support to child
victims of violence and sexual abuse; stalking victims; survivors of homicide victims; victims of
drunk-driving crashes; and victims of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and other crimes; and
WHEREAS, observing victims' rights and treating victims with dignity and respect serves the
public interest by engaging victims in the justice system, inspiring respect for public authorities, and
promoting confidence in public safety; and
WHEREAS,the Eagle County Sheriff's Office is joining forces with victim service
programs, other criminal justice officials, and concerned citizens throughout Eagle County and
America to raise awareness about victims' rights and observe National Crime Victim'Rights Week;
and
NOW, THEREFORE,THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO does hereby proclaim the week of April 6 - April
12, 2014, as Crime Victims' Rights Week and reaffirms this County's commitment to respect and
enforce victims' rights and address their needs during National Crime Victims' Rights Week and
throughout the year. We express our appreciation for those victims and crime survivors who have
turned personal tragedy into a motivating force to improve our response to crime victims and build a
more just community.
THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that this Resolution is an important
acknowledgement for the health and safety of the public in the County of Eagle, State of Colorado.
MOVED, READ AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of
Eagle, State of Colorado, at its regular meeting held the 1 day of April, 2014.
