BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION N0.2008- Q ej 0
Designation of May 2008 as Older Americans Month
"Working Together for Strong, Healthy, and Supportive Communities"
WHEREAS, Eagle County is home to more than 6000 citizens 60 years of age or older;
and
WHEREAS, older adults in Eagle County and throughout the U.S. are a growing
population with evolving needs; and
WHEREAS, Eagle County's population of persons 60 years of age and older is expected
to double by the year 2020; and
WHEREAS, the older adults in Eagle County are living longer, healthier, and more
productive lives than ever before; and
WHEREAS, older persons should live lives of dignity and independence, free from the
fears, myths, and misconceptions about aging: and
WHEREAS, Eagle County recognizes the importance of utilizing the talents, creativity,
and experiences of our older citizens, and encourages the maximum opportunities for
their involvement in regular employment, volunteer service, civic affairs, and all aspects
of community life;
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of this and all U.S. communities to work together and
prepare for changing older adult populations by modernizing systems of care and
providing consumers with more control over their lives;
NOW THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
hereby proclaim May 2008 to be Older Americans Month. We urge everyone to
take time this May to honor our older adults and the professionals and family
members who care for them. We urge all citizens to work collaboratively to
strengthen the services Eagle County provides to its older adults in ways that
recognize the changing nature of their needs, and that provide older adults with
more opportunities to make informed choices about their lives. Our efforts will
improve the lives of our older citizens and help pave the way for future
generations.
