BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION NO. 2005 -

DESIGNATION OF AUGUST 7, 2005 AS "BETTY FORD DAY"
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of
Colorado (hereinafter the "Board") recognizes that Betty Ford was the First Lady during a time
of great crisis for our country and is an exceptional role model of citizenship for every person in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that Betty Ford has greatly contributed her time and
efforts for the benefit of the people of Eagle County, Colorado and to humanity as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that Betty Ford has worked diligently to make women
more aware of the dangers of breast cancer and the need for periodic check-ups; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that Betty Ford was instrumental in establishing the
Vail International Dance Festival as a premier attraction in Eagle County; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that Betty Ford has worked tirelessly to help people
suffering from alcohol and drug addiction; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that Betty Ford has been an extraordinary hostess for
heads of state and visiting dignitaries from around the world at the World Forum; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that Eagle County and all of its communities have
been privileged to have a person of such distinguished character and stature in Eagle County; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes Betty Ford was instrumental in launching the Betty
Ford Alpine Gardens and recognizes the importance of The Alpine Gardens as the world's
highest alpine garden which protects and displays over 3,000 varieties ofrare and endangered
flora to visitors from around the world and further recognizes that the children's garden is a great
educational opportunity for children in Eagle County; and
WHEREAS, The Alpine Gardens has asked for Eagle County's support in
acknowledging Betty Ford through the proclamation of August 7, 2005 as "Betty Ford Day";
and
WHEREAS, the Board wishes to proclaim that August 7, 2005 is "Betty Ford Day";
and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO:
THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that August 7, 2005 shall be
designated as "Betty Ford Day" in Eagle County and be celebrated by families and communities
throughout Eagle County.
THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that this Resolution is necessary
for the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of the County of Eagle, State of
Colorado.
MOVED, READ AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of the
County of Eagle, State of Colorado, at its regular meeting held the ~ day
