COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION NO, 2005 - o1tJ
DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE
INTERSTATE 70 INTERCHANGE TO THE
EAGLE COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT
WHEREAS, Eagle County, in partnership with the towns of Gypsum and Eagle,
undertook a study of potential interchange locations to serve the Eagle County Regional Airport;
and
WHEREAS, traffic volumes forecasted in the study demonstrated the need for the airport
interchange; and
WHEREAS, Eagle County submitted the concept study to the Colorado Department of
Transportation and requested that an interchange be approved and incorporated into the National
Highway System; and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Transportation Commission endorsed the concept and
recommended approval as a National Highway System intermodal connector to the Federal
Highway Administration; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration approved the interchange and
connecting road as a National Highway System intermodal connector to serve the Eagle County
Regional Airport; and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Department of Transportation conducted an environmental
assessment (EA) ofthe airport interchange project to examine a variety of alternative alignments
between Eagle and Gypsum; and
WHEREAS, the EA recommended a preferred alternative alignment which will cross
over the Eagle River, span over State Highway 6, and connect to Cooley Mesa Road via a
roundabout; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners strongly believes the Eagle County
Airport Interchange is a vital transportation improvement project which will ultimately need to
be constructed to achieve the direct intermodal connection from 1-70 to the Eagle County
Regional Airport; and

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners recognizes the extreme importance of
the Colorado Department of Transportation's role in completing the environmental process, the
design, and the acquisition of right-of-way required to complete the pre-construction phase of
this project; and
WHEREAS, Eagle County has enjoyed a long history of partnership with the Colorado
Department of Transportation on a variety oftransportation improvement projects and wishes to
continue this relationship; and
WHEREAS, Eagle County recognizes that current state funding is unavailable to
construct the Airport Interchange in the near future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO:
The Eagle County Board of County Commissioners hereby offers its unanimous support
of the ongoing efforts by the Colorado Department of Transportation to complete the preliminary
design and the acquisition of right-of-way associated with the Airport Interchange. The Board of
County Commissioners further commits to investigate local funding options to ultimately forge a
partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation to fund the final construction of the
interchange. The Board of County Commissioners believes it is the best use oftaxpayers'
dollars to complete the design and acquisition of right-of-way immediately so that Eagle County
can begin the process of developing a local funding strategy to accomplish its long term
transportation planning efforts.
