HomeMy WebLinkAboutR1979-15 Vail Mountain Area Study III a , ler RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO To endorse and cooperate with Vail Associates, the Town of Vail and the United States Forest Service in conducting an indepth one year study to determine the actual capacity of Vail Mountain and the base area combined; and the imposition of interim use limitations. WHEREAS, Vail Mountain during the 1978 -79 season exceeded the theoretical design capacity provided for within the Vail Mountain Master Development Plan and Special Use Permit in excess of the per- mitted 15 days; and WHEREAS, the direct correlation between the additional influx of skiers and tourists in the Town of Vail and surrounding areas and Vail Mountain exceeding the permitted capacity has presently affected and /or may potentially affect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens Of the Town of Vail and County of Eagle, i.e. negative com- munity impacts pertaining to social and economic factors, roads, public facilities and transporation, water and sanitation; and WHEREAS, such community impacts adversely affect the Town of Vail, the United States Forest Service, and the County of Eagle, and Vail Associates; and WHEREAS, the above mentioned parties desire to invoke interim use limitations on Vail Mountain until a cooperative study may be con- ducted to determine the actual capacity of Vail Mountain and the base area combined; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado: THAT, due to the negative community impacts Vail Mountain has created by exceeding its permitted capacity, the Board hereby endorses and shall fully cooperate with the Town of Vail, United States Forest Service and Vail Associates in a comprehensive one year study assessing the impacts of increased skier activity and determining the actual capa- city of Vail Mountain and the base area combined; THAT, the Board will fully assist and employ its Planning De- partment in said study when necessary and requested; THAT, the Board endorses the imposition of the following use limitations on Vail Mountain: 1) that the comfortable capacity on Vail Mountain be limited to 10,508 skiers, not to exceed 35 days during the 1979 -80 ski season; and 2) strict adherence to an absolute maximum capacity of 14,000 skiers for the 1979 -80 ski season; THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that this Resolution is necessary for the public health, safety and welfare in the County of Eagle, State of Colorado. MOVED, READ AND UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, County of Eagle, State of Colorado, held on this day of July, 1979.
