HomeMy WebLinkAboutC93-085 Crime Victims Rights Week's5o4 RECEI JUN . 1993 ►rt D OF COUNjY PROCI AMEAGLE COUNTY �r i Whereas there ate over 9400 crimes committed each day in tho United States; and Whereas reports of violent crime in the United States eoutusue to to up; and Whereas the victims and survivors of those crimes face financial loss, physical injury, and both at the hands of the criminal and in the aftermath of crituinal violation; and Rptui IM..1*0 j ial. trauma ll 9& s . 0111'd Whereas family members and friends of victims and survivors of crime also suffer from the trautna of victimization; and Whereas the fear of cthne causes millions to alter their lifestyles and inhibits their freedom of movement; and Whereas victims stilt do not receive justice that affords rights of access and participation that are equal to those of the aut md; and * . y Whereas c ettain populations such as racial minorities, victims of hate mimes, the chronically mentally ill, the homeless, people with disabilities, children and the elderly remain unserved or underserved is the aftermath of crime; and Wherm certain types of victi nit;atione such as sexual assault, family violence, and sexual harassment, remain unreported or undweported because their victims are often disbelieved and stigmatized; and Whereas the distance traveled over the last twenty—one years, when the fast three victim assistance programs were founded in the U.S., is gratifying, we still have far to go before we have truly established 'Victim Justice; �~ Now, therefore, we the County Commissioners of Eagle County, do hereby proclaim April ZS through May 1,1993 as Crime Victhus Rights Week And urge All t hizens and institutions, public and private, to support the establishment and enforcement of victim rights and services in Colorado through participation in appropriate state and local activities during the deWpated week.
