CIVIL/040 ECHNICAL July 22, 2003 Mr. Hitt Colvin Builders Studio 1627 Columbine Avenue Boulder, CO 80302 Dear Hal: ME: Inspection of Septic System Installation Parcel 25, Diamond Star Ranch 4133 Royal Ells Drive Eagle County, Colorado Project No. 02184 - ISDS Permit No. 2256-03 At ,your request and at the request of Cliff on April 30 and May 7, 2003, we visited the construction site on parcel 25, Diamond Star Ranch, 413 3 Royal Elk Drive, Eagle County, Colorado. The purpose of our site visits was to inspect the installation of the septic system for the addition. The system for the addition was combined with the existing system for the main residence. They installed the system in overall compliance with the septic system design, Drawing No. 02184SD.DWG, last dated April 7, 2003, and as shown on the attached as -built sketch. They installed two tanks in series. They reused the old tank and moved it downhill, and added a new tank. The first tank was 2500-gallon, one compartment, and the second was a 1500-gallon, two -compartments, precast, concrete: septic tank. The septic tanks had `°T'° in each of the four, access openings. A cleanout was installed between the house and the septic tank. Twenty-seven, Standard Infiltrator Chambers were installed in two trenches, with 13 infiltrators in the first and 14 infiltrators in the second trench. The new trenches were at the downhill side of the existing leachfield, and were connected with serial distribution. In the first and last infiltrator of each trench, inspection pouts were installed.. The effluent lime was 4-inch Sop. 35 PVC. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate, to call. The upper hole revealed 4.5' of a clayey, silty, hard topsoil with large basalt rocks and many roots within -the top 3.5'. Below 4.5' deep there exists a clay layer. The lower hole displayed the same conditions for the top 4.5' as the upper hole; but the clayey, silty soil extended to approx. 7' deep. From 4.5' to 7' deep there appeared to be some possible mottling of the soil. At 7' deep the clay layer was encountered again (see diagram). Both pits where dry and no ground water was encountered. It is therefor proposed to cut the infiltrators 0.5' into the ground, and fill over the top of them in order to provide minimum 4' between the clayey layer or the mottled soil. The area of the absorption trenches is essentially at the top of a ridge, with very little surface area draining to it, so we questioned how much groundwater could be directed to the site, and whether it really could be mottling. It is possible that during snowmelt, runoff percolates into the ground and follows the bedrock or clay layer and is directed to this location. we therefor assumed it would be best to presume that it was in fact mottling, and raise the infiltrators to provide 4' to the "mottled" layer. .f PERMIT # Jl -0) PERCOLATION TEST GLE CO TY E NVIRONME TAL ATLIEi .OWNER:_ THSYSICAL ADDRESS: Lr i 3 3 1' ,v4 ,I L t h tJ r f A 1,L Cd _ LEGAL DESCRIPTION: t zs b .. a 0- MAILING ADDRESS: A a !,r y 79 c O TYPE OF DWELLING:_NUMBER OF BEDROOMS: .•- TEST HOLES PRE-SOAKED: YES NO TIME WATER DEPTH INCHES OF FALL RATE SOIL PROFILE n Yerp 13 e S 41a J mm TIME TO DROP LAST INCH: PERC RATE: MIl`IIMUM LEACH FIELD SIZE: MINIMUM SEPTIC TANK SIZE: COMMENTS: d ti t- P -to C le ©N r t c Ca n L a c- 1J 1 co o7` f 0 - a; Is - v ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST DATE Ay v .M ZSDS pemit a- b`3 Tarp gfnil Tw.etion T=k is gal. The existing leachfield L to W CA - consists of seven trenches with 16 infiltrators each for a total of 112 infiltrators. Additional 27 infiltrator N chambers are required. These chambers can by added at the bottom of the leachfield with serial distribution. The additional 27 infiltrators can be constructed in two trenches as shown on the plan. I ck No rEs• W 1. Bends in the building sewer shall be limited to 45 degrees. 2. The septic tank shall be installed level. The tank shall have removable covers or manholes to within 8 inches of the finished grade, for inspection and cleaning. l ` 3. Excavate three (3) feet wide trenches. The horizontal distance from sidewall to sidewall between the trenches shall be a minimum of six (6) feet. 4. The bottom and the sidewalls of the trenches shall be raked to eliminate smearing. • 5. Assemble and install the Infiltrator Chambers in the trenches according to the manufacturers recommendations. OD N 0) 6. Backfill the sidewall area with native on -site soil for proper support. N 7. Backfill the trenches with a minimum of 12 inches of tamped soil cover. °0 rn w O 1-1 8.
