Subject: Site Evaluation and Percolation Test for Individual Sewage System on a 35 -
acre Parcel of Land in the Spring Park Meadows Subdivision (Lot 6)
Dear Harry,
As requested, Nelson Environmental and Wastewater Solutions, Ltd., performed a soils
study and percolation test on the subject property to determine a septic system for the
barn and small second -story storage and work area on this property. We conducted
this study according to Section 4.05.01 through 4.05.04 of Eagle County Individual
Sewage Disposal System Regulation on May 9 and June 3, 2002. We have based our
recommendations on the subsurface conditions encountered.
Please furnish this letter to the Eagle County Environmental Health Department at your
earliest opportunity, so that the permit to construct this sewage system may be issued.
Proposed Construction:
The proposed building is a barn and the second floor is 2dmarily for storage and has a
small office. There is only one bathroom without a shower or tub in the first floor barn.
There may be many days when the plumbing is not used at all. Average daily
wastewater flows are expected to be less than one hundred aaligns per day. In
addition, plans have been made to divert the drainage and floor, roof and storm drains
to a separate drywell.
Site Conditions:
This site is in Missouri Heights. The portion of the site used for the garage is a flat area
and will be covered with the proposed building footprint and mostly paved parking area.
The property slopes gently up to the east, and there is a rough driveway in to the main
building site to be developed later.
The total lot is approximately 35 acre in size. This building is to be supplied water from
the existing community wells with water lines already to the property.
Subsurface Conditions:
A soil profile pit, within an area considered suitable for an on -site wastewater disposal
system was excavated and no groundwater or evidence of groundwater was
encountered in the excavation. Solis consisted of forty-two inches of clay loam topsoil,

followed by t.t Id0=h"_Qf dish brown cla subsoil and then a sandy silt and small
basalt rocks to the bottom of the exnloratanr-excavation at eiaht and one-half feet.
The subsurface soil conditions were evaluated with the standard percolation test
procedures at the approximate location shown on Figure 1. The subsoil, in which the
percolation testing was done, consisted of a clay loam topsoil to annrr+Y4mately three
feet. A small amount of gravel was placed in the bottom of each of the test holes.
Percolation testing was performed in the proposed absorption area location. The
percolation holes were pre-soaked beginning morning before testing. Water was added
to the test holes at regular intervals of approximately one hour throughout the day. An
estimated total of twenty to thirty gallons were added to each of the test holes the day
that the test was conducted. The results of the percolation testing are presented in
Tam ble I. These results indicate the subsoil in the area of the absorption trenches has an
average ercolation rate of ten minutes per inch. The soil conditions encountered are
considered acceptable for conventiona on -site sewage system construction typically
used in this area.
Limitations: This report has been prepared according to generally accepted practices in
this area for use for sewage disposal design purposes. The conclusions and
recommendations submitted in this report are based upon data obtained from our site
visits at the location indicated. There is some possibility that the nature and extent of
variations in the subsurface soils across the site may not have been evident at the time
of this investigation, and may need additional evaluation if further excavation reveals
conditions different from those described. This office should be advised of any unusual
situations as soon as possible so that we may reevaluate our recommendations.
If you have questions or If we may be of further assistance, please call the office.
Since%ly,
Robert F. Nelson, E.H.S.
President
