3 percolation tests were performed. The last 10 minutes of the 3 tests were 16.7, 16.7 and20.8

A new soil profile hole was dug (March 2002) to confirm soil conditions. The soil appears to
consist of silty sands with an occasional 6" — P diameter rock.
An application rate of 0.6 appears to fit soil texture and percolation rate conditions.

March 14, 2vv3,
Mr. Ray Merry
Eagle County Health Department
Via Facsimile:
Re. Rancho Del Rio Septic System
Dear Ray:
Following is a summary of the basis for determining sewage generation for cottages with
no laundry or toilets.
A water use breakdown for a single-family house is provided in the Eagle County
regulations based upon 75 GPDlperson:
Water Use Breakdown
Eagle County Regulations

75 G15
This table has existed in the Eagle County Land Use Regulations for many years and in
my opinion is based upon the (old) standard 3.5 - 4 gallons per flush toilets and non,
water conservation devices.
As an example, I have attached two (2) water invoices for nay house that represent
recently installed low Bush toilets and 2 GPM shower head restrictors_ The invoices
show that my family of four (4) uses 3,000 to 4,000 gallons per month (31 days per
invoice). 4,000 gal/31 days/4 people = 33 gpd/person

(Note: I work 5 days a week, 2 kids are in school 5 days a week, wife works 3 days a
week; not at Dome).
Add: 4 people x 2 flushes x 1.5 gallons/flush 12 gallons
4 people x 2 wash hands x .5 gallon 4 gallons
if four (4) people in the house full time = 49 GYD/person
Since various references (including Eagle County's ISDS Regulations) identify
cottage/cabin uses at 50 gpd/person and since 50 gpd apprs to be a reasonable azno'.ant
(my family that lives to a single family house uses 50
pgd), I then broke down the "various
cottage uses to arrive at 50 gpd.
Bath/Shower
1. Cabins are to have showers, (Not baths, which use more water;. Cabins
will have low flow fixtures; reduce 20% from 14.7 gpd to 12 gpd.
Sink/Kitchen
2. I would expect kitchen sink uses to be similar as a single-family house;
held the same at 4.5 gpd/person.
Laundry
3. I understand that cabins may be rented on a weekly basis where much of-`
the dirty laundry would be taken home to wash. I would also assume that'`
washing machines are the smaller compact type to fit in the smiall cottage,
which would use smaller amounts of water. However, for option #2, I
kept the same laundry use as a single-family home of 19.5 gpd.
Lavatory
4. Based upon 7 uses per day at .5 gallonsluse = 3.5 gallons/person1day
Toilet
5. Old 3.5 gallon/flush toilets: 7 flushes @ 3.5 gallon/flush = 24 gpd
New toilets Trial # 1
10flushes x s..3 gal of lglush = 15 ga io7!!d y
Trial #2
7 flashes x 1.5 gallon1flush =10 gallon/day

Please see the attached table, which summarizes the information above.
Additional Area for Absorption Area:
The absorption field near cabins 8 and 9 are being relocated in order to provide minimum
horizontal set'vacks between fields. (See attached plan)

Dear Janet:
Invert elevations have not been provided on the AEI septic system plan: accurate topographic
information is not available in order to provide this information. The contractor should lay out and field
verify the inverts as required per information provide below, prior to constructing any septic system
improvements. ,!Notify AE! if additional information is required. Following are recommendations for the

the septic tanks.
2. Provide 1% min slope on the sewer line downstream of the septic tanks.
3. Provide a maximum of 1 to 1.5 feet. of cover over the infiltrator units.
4. If less than 4feet of cover on sewer lines between the cabins and the septic tanks is
required in order to provide requirements #1-3 above, provide 1" thickness of rigid
