Mr. Spencer,
As requested, we observed the installation of the onsite wastewater system (OWS) for the subject site on
August 22, 2002. The system was designed under our Job No. 14669W, dated May 3, 2002.
The system includes the installation of one 1250-gallon, two -compartment, precast concrete septic tank
with a pump in a Biotub6m pump vault and a mounded gravelless chamber -bed. The bed has 3 rows of
10 chambers each for a total top infiltrative area of 625 square feet (SF). The mound of imported sand
filter material measures 25-feet wide by 79-feet long by 2.5-feet deep. The basal infiltrative area is 1975
SF. There was sufficient sand placed to the west and down gradient of drain field at a 2:1 slope.
The pump, alarm, and Biotub6rm vault were in place at the time of our site visit. The control panel was
not installed and electrical connections not made as of our inspection. The components of the OWS were
installed in conformance with our plans and specifications.

SUBSURFACE CONDMONS
The subsurface investigation was performed by digging one profile pit and three percolation holes, at the
locations indicated on Figure 1. Subsurface materials consisted of 6 inches of topsoil, underlain by sandy
clay with scattered boulders to 2 feet, underlain by large angular basalt fragments and boulders to practical
backhoe refusal of 3.5 feet. No grotmd water was encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates
of 20 to 27 minutes per inch 01,24 The percolation average rate is 251!, L Percolation data is presented in
`fable 1.
RFCONEVIE DAr IONS
The installation must include a septic tank and a mounded chamber -type drain field installed at the location
presented on Figure 1. The mounding is based on an Eagle County requirement of a minimum 4-foot
separation to the basalt boulders. The OWS design is based on an average sewage load of 450 GPD and a
LTAR of 12 gals/SF/day, for the sand infiltrative area, and 0.6 gals/SF/day for the mound basal area. The

BiotubeTM vault, and a mounded chaurber dra- field with huported sand filter material. Three rows of
cl=mibers, each row with 10 chambers is required. A 1.25-inch lateral with ;Ja-inch holes drilled on four -foot
centers must be suspended within chambers, with holes upward and every fifth bole facing down. Topsoil
and additional soft, to create the basal area of the mound, must be removed beneath the mound area and
replaced with 2.5 feet of imported sand filter material_ The topsoil should be stockpiled and used on top of

Vehicle movement over the field area during construction should be kept at a minimum to reduce
compaction of the soils. The mound area should be scarified prior to installation of sand and chambers.
