After speaking with you and understanding what design suits the lot, I mentioned to the Professional Engineer at CTL Thompson that I had the plan finalized and he thought it best to proceed without his design. He has reviewed the site plan but did not feel comfortable stamping a plan he did not design. Therefore, I hope the information enclosed is sufficient. If there are any questions please call me. I repositioned the house to accommodate two trenches in the open area uphill of the line of trees and found two relatively clear paths for the remaining downhill trenches through the trees. Thank you for the input during your visit on Monday. Percolation tests were performed in pit locations shown on Figure 1. Logs of soils found in our test pits and profile hole are shown on Figure 2. Data from testing are shown on Figures 3 through 6. Based on field percolation testing we recommend a design percolation rate of 60 minuteslinch. At this site a "conventional system" is appropriate based on a design percolation rate of 60 minutes/inch. The minimum adsorption area required is calculated below. We recommend a conventional individual sewage disposal system with a minimum area of 1628 feet. If you have questions, please call. Very truly yours, CTL/THO NC:. ENGINEERS & GEOLOGISTS June 4, 2001 Kai Peterson 4206 Elk Lane Basalt, Colorado 81621 Subject: OWS Design, Proposed Peterson Residence Lot 27, Ruedi Shores Eagle County, Colorado Job No. 14134W Mr. Peterson, As requested, we have designed an onsite wastewater system (OWS) for the proposed residence. The subsurface investigation was performed by CTL/Thompson on May 6, 2001. SITE CONDITIONS The lot is located in a resid tial arelajR Eagle County, Colorado. The proposed drain field area has an 18% slope to the east. There is a" U ver of native grasses. PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION A three -bedroom residence is proposed as the location presented on Figure 1. In accordance with the Indi- vidual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS) regulations, the sewage loading for a three -bedroom residence is 450 Gallons Per Day (GPD) average. The sewage loading with a peaking factor of 1.5 is 675 GPD. This loading includes a dishwasher, garbage grinder, and washing machine. The residence will be served by a community well located 100+ feet from the drain field. SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS CTL/Thompson performed a subsurface investigation by digging three percolation holes, 33 to 35 inches deep, and one profile pit at the locations indicated on Figure 1. Subsurface materials in the profile pit consisted of a sandy to silty clay to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet. No ground water or bedrock was encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 30 to 60 minutes per inch (MPI). The average percolation rate is 50 MPI. Percolation data is presented in Appendix A. RECOMMENDATIONS Based on the published Long -Term Acceptance Rate (LTAR) table, a percolation rate of 50 MPI has a LTAR of 0.45 gallon/SF/day. Using the peak loading of 675 gallons per day and an LTAR of 0.45 gallon/ SF/day, 1500 square feet (SF) of drain field is required Using InfiltratorTM chambers and taking a 50% reduction, 750 SF of drain field would be required. Our OWS design is based on a percolation rate of 50 MPI and an LTAR of 0.45 gallons/SF/day, which requires 750 SF of drain field with a 50% reduction. The OWS must include the installation of one 1000-gallon, two -compartment, precast septic tank with an effluent filter on the outlet and six chamber -trenches using serial distribution and a flow splitter basin. Wadsworth Boulevard Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 303.463.9317 Fax: 303.463.9321 CASTLE ROCK 303.660.4358 EVERGREEN 303.816.1455 LOVELAND 970.663.2124 OWS Design Job No. 14134W Page 2 Trenches `A' must have one row of 10 chambers, and trenches `B' must have one row of five chambers. The flow splitter basin, which must be bedded and leveled properly, divides the effluent to two trenches from which there is serial overflow to the remaining trenches. If additional bedrooms are anticipated, the OWS should be sized for the final build -out number of bedrooms. Trenches should be installed no deeper than 4 feet. The trenches may be moved slightly as to not disturb large trees and to preserve as much vegetation as possible, but must be level. If gravity discharge cannot be achieved our office should be contacted for details regarding pump specifications. Movement over the drain field trench during construction should be kept at a minimum to prevent compaction of the receiving soils. The bottom of each trench must be scarified with a pick, shovel, or backhoe bucket teeth prior to the addition of dispersal gravel. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE The owner must realize an OWS is different from public sewer service and must assume the responsi- bility for maintenance of the OWS. The system is relatively maintenance free, but the owner must have the septic tanks pumped. In the absence of a monitoring program, the septic tank should be pumped and the effluent filter cleaned every two years. There are daily considerations, such as not putting plastic or other nonbiodegradable material into the OWS. Water use must be monitored so toilets are not allowed to run when seals malfunction. To illustrate the point, a running toilet can consume in excess of 1000 GPD. A loading of 1000 GPD could flood and irreparably harm the OWS. The loading from the backwash of a water softener may be harmful to the OWS. A separate drywell should be constructed for the backwash waste, if a softener is installed Chemically treated water from a swimming pool or spas should not be introduced to the OWS. LP4HATIONS An OWS design requires installation by a licensed contractor. Our investigation, layout, design and recommendations are based on data submitted. If subsurface conditions considerably different from those described in this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the effect on the proposed OWS. If the health department makes modifications of this design, we should be contacted to evaluate the impact on the performance of the OWS. All construction is to be in accordance with the ISDS regulations. Pipe type and size, burial requirements, septic tank construction, and other specifications, which are not depicted in our report, are to conform to the requirements of the ISDS regulations. The installer of the system is to have demonstrated knowledge of the Eagle County ISDS regulations and requirements. If there are questions or if we can be of further service, please call. Effective on systems with low available heads. Also used for level control in wetland systems. Custom configurations only. Call for more information. Hydrosplitters are used whets dosing filtered effluent by pump or siphon to achieve proper dis- tribution Of flow to gravity drainfield laterals of varying lengths and/or elevations. Unaffected by settling ground, flow is pressurized to the Hydrosplitter and then flows by gravity to individual drainfield laterals. Fabricated with PVC components, each Hydrosplitter is designed to meet the Specific needs of a particular drainfield. ENGINEERS & GEOLOGISTS June 18, 2001 Kai Peterson 4206 Elk Lame Basalt, Colorado 81621 Subject: Flow Splitter Basin Recommendations, Proposed Peterson Residence Lot 27, Ruedi Shores Eagle County, Colorado Job No. 14134W NIr_ Peterson, As requested by the Eagle County Health Department we are providing operation and maintenance requirements required to maintain effective distribution of the Flow Splitter Basin. We believe the flow splitter basin is important to distribute flow to two sets of trenches at homes occupied on a full time basis. To confirm even and equal distribution of effluent through the flow splitter basin, the homeowner must remove lid and inspect the basin annually. The liquid should be flowing towards outlets at a constant and even rate. The `speed levelers' may be rotated to equalize flow to the two outlets. You will be shown how to maintain equal flow at the basin. The homeowner should provide in writing to the Eagle County Health Department the results of each annual observation. The homeowner must instruct future residents of these requirements. If there are questions or if we can be of further service, please call. The project manager is Tim Petz. Attn: Sill Carlson Dear Mr. Carlson; I am writing in response to my conversation, with Mr. Carlson, on June 191h, 2001 concerning the design of the septic system for Lot 27, Filing 2, Ruedi Shores Subdivision. I understand that the septic design Church and Associates provided for my house is not the preferred system of Eagle County. As a homeowner, I feel comfortable with the engineering knowledge provided by Church and Associates and accept the responsibilities of operation and maintenance. I will instruct fuxare residents of the requirements of such a system, Specifically, the Flow Sputter Basin we will install will need to be, monitored to insure it is level and equal distribution of effluent is reaching all sections of the leach field. I will perform operation and ruaitrtenance cheeks on the Basin mace during the months of June and December of each year and will provide, in writing, the results of each observation to the Eagle County Health Department. The requirements set forth for Maintenance by Church and ,Associates were addressed in a letter to Eagle County Health Department and I have one on :NIe as well. Sincerely, F Bethany Carol March 18, 2003 Eagle County Dept. of Environmental Health P. O. Box 850 500 Broadway Eagle, CO 81631 Attn: Bill Carlson Dear Mr. Carlson, I am submitting my annual inspection on my septic system as was requested by your department. The design, by E. O. Church, was issued with the stipulation that the system was inspected and an annual letter sent to Eagle County. I examined the splitter (distribution) box and it is level with equal flow going to both sides of the leach field. All other aspects of the system are also functioning. Thanks.
