Box 179, Eagle, Colorado 81631-0179 LKP `: Engineering, Inc. CIVIL/GEOTECHNICAL October 4, 2002 Mr. Marc Scully Alpine Mountain Builders P.O. Box 1282 Edwards, CO 81632 Dear Marc: RE: Septic System Recommendations - The Barn Parcel 1, Diamond Star Ranch 1933 West Diamond Star Ranch Road Eagle County, Colorado Project No. 0106 At the request of Mr. Ulf Lindroth, we have prepared the following recommendations for the Septic System needs for the Barn at the Jacobson residence, 1933 West Diamond Star Ranch Road, Eagle County, Colorado. On the site is an existing septic system designed for eight bedrooms. If the barn is to be used by the same household of the main residence, the septic system will not have to be increased. Since the single bathroom in the barn is at lower elevation than the septic tanks and the leachfield, an ejector pump will have to be installed for the bathroom to lift the wastewater to the septic tank. We recommend a Zoeler "Waste -Mate" Model 282 with a 3-inch N.P.T. discharge, or equivalent, approved by the undersigned engineer. A three-inch diameter, SCH40 PVC should be used to discharge the wastewater from the sump to the septic tank. Since the existing septic tank came pre -drilled with only one inlet opening, which is already used, the pressure line from the barn should be connected to the level portion of the pressure line coming from the main house, just before it enters the septic tank. All connections must be watertight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. Sincerely, LKP Engineering,'IAa29521. a:,•,"s''. At the meeting in Mark's office, with Mark and Bill Stenson, zve have agreed to modify the septic system. Due to insufficient room above the ground water table is minimum of 1$ inchas above the underdrain system), for the septic tanks to -beset for gravity -flow, the sewage. from the. residence will have to..be lifted to the septic tanks, where the solids will settle and the effluent will be discharged by gravity to the leaehfFld with infiltrators. The septic tanks will be located a minimum of 10 feet away from the leaclifield. A, pump capable of delivering 50 gpm against a total head of 30 feet is deeded. . We recommend. Goulds, submersible, duplex, sewage pump, Model. 3$$7BH-F, with a 3-inch NPT flange. This model, according to the manufacturer's specifications (included with this letter), is designed for continuous operation. The pomp ratings are with.ir, the ntcstor in anufacture}"'s reed — ended working limits, can be operated continuously without damage when Fully submerged. Other pump models must be verified with the engineer. If this alternative is to be implemented, the 1000-gallon lift station, previously recommended to 1 ift the effluent to the leachfield can be eliminated, and since the septic tank will be more than two feet alcove the ground, water table, the one, 2500-gallon, two -compartment tank by Copland Concrete can be used, instead of the two, 1250-gallon tanks. 1f you have any questions, please do not hasitnte. to ill. They were looking at the largest tank that would fit. That may on able to fit a 500 g tank. They were however going to use a dual pump system and have a back-up generator for when the electricity as out. Also, they are going to have a check valve in the schedule 40 effluent line from the ejector pump tank to the septic tanks up ne leach field that will be placed 9 feet from the ejector tank. They will frost proof the line and at .4 g/ft in the effluent line this would mea it 3.6 g would drain back into the ejector tank. I told Louisa that we need letters and as-builts explaining the entire system and the and iin system as well. What do you think about this system? Janet Kohl LKP ENGINEERING, INC. P.O. Sincerely, LET Engineering, i Luiza Petrovska, I President Enclosure CAWP I0-LKP\0106sd-bam.wpd P.O.
