Property Location: 345 Milburn Court, Carbondale, CO., Stevenson residence. Enclosed is your ISDS Permit No. 1850-99. It is valid for 120 days. The enclosed copy of the permit must be posted at the installation site. Any changes in plans or specifications invalidates the permit unless otherwise approved. Systems designed by a Registered Professional Engineer must be certified by the Engineer indicating that the system was installed as specified. Eagle County does not perform final inspections on engineer designed systems. Your TCO will not be issued until our office receives this certification. Permit specifications are minimum requirements only, and should be brought to the property owner's attention. This permit does not indicate conformance with other Eagle County requirements. Box 8096 Aspen, Colorado 81612 Job No. 199 148 Subject: Percolation Testing for Proposed Residence, Lot 15, Filing 3, Aspen Mountain View, Eagle County, Colorado. Dear Ms. Stevenson: Aa requested, Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. performed percolation testing for septic disposal design at the subject site. The testing was conducted in accordance with our agreement for geotechnical services to you dated February 1, 1999. The tests were conducted to determine the feasibility of an infiltration septic disposal system at the site. The data obtained and our recommendations based on the subsurface conditions encountered are presented in this report. Proposed Construction: At the time of our study, design plans for the residence had not been developed, but it is assumed that the septic disposal system will be located near the southeast portion of the lot as shown on Fig. 1. Subsurface Conditions: The subsurface conditions at the site were observed on February 3, 1999. One eight foot deep profile pit was dug by the client on February 2, 1999 at the location shown on Fig. 1. The subsoils encountered, below about one foot of topsoil, consist of low plasticity silty sandy clay with basalt gravel to a depth of 21/2 Sfeet, overlying dense basalt cobbles and b liUe s in a silts s clay matrix to the maximum depth explored, about 8 feet. No free water was encountered in the profile pit at the time of excavation and the subsoils were slightly moist to moist. Three percolation test holes (nominal 12 inch diameter by 12 inches deep) were hand - dug by the client in the bottom of shallow backhoe pits on February 10, 1999. The test holes were soaked overnight with water and protected from freezing by covering with straw bales. The locations of the percolation test pits are shown on Fig. 1. The soils exposed in the percolation test pits are similar to those in the profile pit. Percolation Testing: Percolation tests were conducted in holes P-1 and P-3 by a representative of Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. on February 11, 1999. Test hole P-2 was disturbed (pit caved in) prior to testing, and was not cleaned out and resoaked until February 22, 1999. We conducted percolation testing on Test hole #2 on February 23, 1999. The percolation test results, presented in Table I, range from 26 to 90 minutes per inch, with an average percolation rate of 48 minutes ner inch. The variable percolation rates were likely caused by the high rockcontentof the soil. Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and the percolation test results, the tested area appears suitable for a conventional infiltration septic disposal system. We recommend that the system be oversized due to the variable percolation rates. Eagle County may require that a civil engineer be consulted to design the septic disposal system. Sybrina Stevenson February 23, 1999 Page 2 Limitations: This study has been conducted in accordance with generally accepted geotechnical engineering principles and practices in this area at this time. We make no warranty either expressed or implied. The conclusions and recommendations submitted in this report are based upon the data obtained from the profile pit excavated at the location indicated on Fig. 1 and our experience in the area. Our findings include extrapolation of the subsurface conditions identified at the exploratory pit and variations in the subsurface conditions may not become evident until excavation is performed. If conditions encountered during construction appear different from those described in this report, we should be notified at once so re-evaluation of the recommendations may be made. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please call our office. Sincerely, HEPWORTH-PAWLAK GEOTECHNICAL, INC. Mark Mackie, E.I.
