The system is being designed by Dan Cokley with Schmueser, Gordon, & Meyer, Inc. Mr. Cokley has sent you an inspection report, however, he has not done a final inspection because the system has not been completed yet. If there is a problem extending the ISDS Permit into the 1998 construction year, please advise me. Thank you. Sincerely, VV"6 Susan S. Box 623 Aspen, CO 81612 February 4, 1998 Dear Ms. McCoy, Eagle County Building P.O. Box 179 500 Broadway Eagle, Colorado 81631-0179 I am writing this letter in response to your request to extend ISDS Permit #1740-97 for your property located at 5448 Frying Pan Rd., Basalt, CO. This permit was issued October 30, 1997, for the installation of a 2,000 gallon holding tank with an alarm signal to indicate when pumping is necessary. The special requirements dictate that the installation be completed by a registered engineer and that any additional improvements to the septic system, i.e., the addition of a leach field, would require a separate permit application. On January 29, 1998, I received correspondence from Dan Cokley at Schmueser Gordon Meyer, Inc., regarding final inspection of your property. Since that time, your ISDS permit has been completed and any additional work on the septic system located on your property would require a separate ISDS application, as stated in your original permit. Please call me at (970) 328-8755 if you have any questions. Sincerely, Heather Savalox Environmental Health Specialist encl PNPCWCT200 Pl*&hW42M,J (PZUMQ --, — ... Box 179 ` Eagle CO 81631 \v RE: Parcel 1A, South Taylor Creek Subdivision Dear Ray: I am writing you in regards to a property located approximately 5'/2 miles up the Frying Pan River at 5448 Frying Pan Road in Eagle County, Colorado. Our firm was contacted by a partner of a small stable operation with a capacity of four horses. The operation is run out of an existing barn with a drywell-type septic system that is a non -conforming use. There is also a small A -frame building located on the same property. The existing septic system at the barn is not functioning properly and backs up effluent through a floor drain located in the barn. This floor drain is used to drain water from washing horses in the winter. There is also a bathroom in the barn containing a lavatory and a toilet. The barn is typically occupied only by the horses and used during the day by the caretaker. The caretaker does stay overnight occasionally to tend to sick and pregnant horses. The owner intends to build a new residence on the property in the near future, at which time he would construct a septic system to handle both the new residence ant the barn. Soil investigation has been done recently by Bob Nelson, with Nelson Environmental Wastewater Solutions. We have found acceptable percolation rates, but high groundwater situation which would necessitate a mound system being installed. For the short term, we propose to replace the existing drywell system with a 2000 gallon, baffled, concrete septic tank to serve as a holding tank. Included in the design would be —an electric alarm system with a visual alarm attached to the outside of the building in a prominent location. This would allow a pump to be installed in the future to discharge to the future mound system. We estimate the average use at the barn to consist of the following: A maximum of two persons/day @ 15 gal/person/day = 30 gpd 2. Horse washing, 10-minute duration at 5 gpm = 50 qpd Total = 80 gpd (max) In the winter time, it is typical that the horses get washed approximately once per month, while in the summer time, washings occur more frequently, but are done outside the barn. We believe the average daily flow to the tank will be in the 15-20 gpd range. Assuming a water -tight plumbing system and septic tank, the tank would need to be pumped approximately every three months. October 17, 1997 Mr. Ray Merry Page 2 Please find enclosed a schematic site plan, septic tank and alarm detail. Please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions or comments regarding this matter. Your prompt review would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, SCHMUESER GORDON MEYER, INC.
