The purpose of this letter is to provide you a final inspection report for the Cap K Ranch ISDS
located along the Fryingpan River in Eagle County, Colorado. The system was completed and
tested on Wednesday, October 18, 1995. 1 reviewed the system on Thursday, October 19,
1995. During the construction I made several site visits to provide periodic inspection of the
system.
There were a few changes in the layout of the system components which made for a better
design as a result. These changes are shown in the attached as -built drawing.
Specifically, the following changes were noted:
• The pumping chamber was moved near the field to provide adequate cover over
pipe and adequate slope on both dosing and gravity lines.
• The 1 500gallon pumping chamber was replaced by two 1250 gallon chambers.
These tanks are connected at the bottom with a 4" pipe.
• An additional alarm was placed on the garage, within site of both the road and
caretaker's house.
• The high point of the pressure distribution lines is the header pipe. When the
pump turns off, flow will continue into the field and back to the tank from this
point.
During the construction, the existing septic tank on the south side of the road was determined
to be an inoperable aeration tank with a volume of approximately 1500 gallons. The tank is
in good condition and will provide adequate service for the existing 2 bedroom house. In
addition, the existing sewerline was determined to be 4" vitrified clay pipe. The pipe was
inspected and deemed to be in good condition and not necessary to be replaced.
In summary, the new system which provides service to the two bedroom house on the south
side and the main house on the north was installed in conformance with the plans and
specifications prepared by SGM in accordance with the Eagle County ISDS Regulations.
The owners of the property are currently working on an easement agreement between the
entities involved in this system.
Finally, enclosed is a sketch of the existing buildings and ISDS's on the property for your file.

I am writing to confirm our telephone conversation yesterday regarding the Cap K Ranch
ISDS. You indicated you would issue the ISDS permit subject to a few conditions. The
conditions included in the permit would include the following:
• The baffle in the first tank at the main house should be removed to provide
increased solids storage.
• The header pipe at the mound system shall be placed 6" above the distribution
lines.
• Installation instructions will be given to John Doden for distribution to the
successful bidder.
• The septic tank and dosing tank on the south side of the river shall be sealed
following installation and subsequent pumping or maintenance.
• Contractor shall inform SGM as to schedule so that we may provide installation
inspection as necessary.
The final inspection documents will include an overall site plan of the property and existing
septic tank inspection report.

Subject: Individual Sewage System Repair for the Main House, Bunk House and Ranch Hand
Residence at the Cap K Ranch Partnership Properties
Dear John,
As requested, Nelson Environmental and Wastewater Solutions, Ltd., performed a preliminary
soils study and percolation tests to design a septic system for the proposed residence. We
conducted this study according to Sections 4.04 and 4.05 , Chapter IV Individual Sewage
Dim S) of the Eagle County Code on April 21, 1995. We have based our
recommendations on the subsurface conditions encountered.

The existing houses consist of a five bedroom, two and one half bathroom, two-story brick main
house, a bu�nlChouse with six beds, and a ranch hand residence with two bedrooms and one bath.
The residences are currently served by a concrete aerated treatment p aant, functioning as a septic
tank, with a volume of 1200 gallons. There are absorption areas of undetermined size just to the
West of the existing brick garage.
Site Cmdit m:
The site is a ranch property along the Frying Pan River approximately 9.5 miles East of Basalt.
The property is served by we a ranch is approximately 1700 acres total in size, and is, for
purposes of taxes and estate planning separated into various ownerships.
The ground surface, which appears natural in the proposed area of the absorption field, slopes
rather gently to the South toward the river at a 5% grade. There are irrigation ditches and water
courses in the area, as delineated on the enclosed site plan.
The typical vegetation pattern of the area is grasses and meadow.
SuluConditions:
A soil profile pit was excavated at the time of this investigation. There was a water table located
approximately thirty two inches below existing grade.
The subsurface soil conditions were evaluated with the. standard percolation test procedures at the
approximate location shown on Figures 1. The test holes were hand dug in the location of the
proposed absorption field before our arrival at the site. Several inches of gravel were placed in
the bottom of each hole. The subsoil in which the percolation testing was run, below a topsoil
layer of six to sixteen inches, consisted of loam and silt loam with numerous flagstones on three or

four inch diameter.. This soil was well consolidated, and showed only a slight tendency to shrink
or swell with moisture content.
Percolation testing was performed in the proposed absorption area South of the road and North
of the river. Three shallow holes were hand dug to a_depth of twenty four -inches and were
approximately six inches in diameter. The percolation holes had been excavated earlier and were
pre-soaked th morning before testing. The water was initially added approximately !�Vh hours
before beginning the percolation test measurements and refilled to a depth of ten inches above the
gravel at regular intervals of one to two hours before beginning the test measurements.
The results of the percolation testing are presented in Table I. These results indicate the silt loam
soils have an average percolation rate o minutes per inc . owever, due to the hi water
table, the site is not considered acceptable for a conventi-ma mfit+* don design for the on -site
sewage system, and further design by a registered professional engineer is considered necessary.
The minimum Eagle County requirements for this installation are based on a system flow
averaging 1500 gallons per day. This flow would require a total septic tank volume of 3000
s illons minimum. It is anticipated that the absorption area for the resi ential uses would be an
elevated sand mound, with sufficient sand to filter the septic tank effluent before it reaches the
water table. t type o system is required, under State law, to be designed by a registered
professional engineer. To that end, we have referred you to Dan Cokley of Schmeuser, Gordon,
Meyer, to finalize the details of the onsite wastewater system design.

This report has been prepared according to generally accepted practices in this area for use for
sewage disposal design purposes. The conclusions and recommendations submitted in this report
are based upon data obtained from our site visits at the location indicated. There is some
possibility that the nature and extent of variations in the subsurface soils across the site may not
have been evident at the time of this investigation, and may need additional evaluation if further
excavation reveals conditions different from those described. This office should be advised of any
unusual situations as soon as possible so we may reevaluate our recommendations. If you have

also completed and forwarded to Eagle County enclosed the permit application, so that the permit
to construct this sewage system can be completed.
