of the following Resolution:
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION NO. 21
SUPPORTING PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE FOR THE CITY
OF ASPEN, ROARING FORK VALLEY AND EAGLE COUNTY
WHEREAS, support has been expressed in the form of studies and planning
of light -rail and regional service as alternate public transport method
for Aspen, the Roaring Fork Valley and Eagle County; and
WHEREAS, support has been expressed by the retention and preservation
of the Denver and Rio Grande Right -Of -Way within the County as a viable
railbed; and
WHEREAS, the County of Eagle supports the development of passenger rail
service as an essential element in the mix of available transportation
choices to the destination resorts of Aspen and Snowmass; and
WHEREAS: The County of Eagle believes that passenger rail service
would substantially reduce current access problems to Aspen, Snowmass,
and the lower section of Eagle County caused by the effects of weather
on reliability and safety of the present air and highway systems, and
WHEREAS: The County of Eagle believes future commuter rail
service in the Roaring Fork Valley is essential in promoting tourism
in the entire County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO:
THAT, Eagle County does hereby call on and urge the Denver and Rio
Grande Western Railroad Company to facilitate the development of
passenger rail service to Aspen, Roaring Fork Valley and Eagle County
by making their facilities available to the appropriate parties under
reasonable and equitable terms and within a reasonable time period.
THAT, Eagle County, in cooperation with other counties in the State of
Colorado, promote and support a recreational rail service that will
benefit the economic well -being of the County through tourism.
THAT, Eagle County does hereby reiterate to the Denver and Rio Grande
Western Railroad Company, to the citizens of Aspen, Roaring Fork Valley
and Eagle County, and to all other interested parties, its continued
enthusiastic support of the provision of passenger rail service to the
Roaring Fork valley under circumstances which benefit the citizens of
and visitors to Aspen, Roaring Fork Valley and Eagle County, and which
provide the benefits noted in this Resolution.
MOVED, READ AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of the
County of Eagle, State of Colorado, at its regular meeting held the
21st day of March, 1988.
