Dear Applicant,
Eagle County Building
P.O. Box 179
500 Broadway
Eagle, Colorado 81631-0179
The Environmental Health Division would like to notify you to
make a formal request to extend your Individual Sewage Disposal
System(ISDS) Permit #I'>< q-G/- into the 1996 construction year. The
Environmental Health Division discontinued percolation tests on
November 15, 1995 and final inspections on December 2, 1995 due
to climatic conditions.
ISDS permits are active for 120 days after the date of issue if
no Building Permit has been issued for the same property. If a
Building Permit has been issued for the same property the ISDS
will expire at the same time as the building permit.
If you still plan to apply for a Building Permit this year or in
the early months of 1996 you will need to have a percolation test
conducted before your Building Permit will be released. You will
have to contact a Registered Professional Engineering(RPE) firm
to conduct your percolation test.
If you have had your permit issued and have not had your final
inspection completed, but plan on constructing the system in the
next few weeks, please give our office a call and we will
evaluate your permit on a case by case situation.
Please give the Environmental Health office a call at 328-8755,
if you have any questions regarding your permit extension
process.

RE: Certification of Individual Sewage Disposal .System (ISDS) Installation
Coyote Subdivision - Lot A, Gypsum, Colorado
Kim Hefty and Warren Lyon, Owners
Dear Mr. Merry:
The purpose of this letter is to certify that the individual sewage disposal system
(ISDS) for the address referenced above was installed according to the design
specifications and drawings that I submitted to your office by letter, dated June 21,
1995, with the following exceptions:
The septic tank is located approximately 93 feet from the house in the same
direction as shown on the drawings;
► Two cleanouts have been installed on the sewer line, one inside the house and
-, one between the house and the septic tank; and
Each of the two absorption trenches are approximately 4 feet in lend

The system was installed by Robert Ford, a licensed systems contractor ir`i Eagle
County (#6096). Construction was substantially completed on September 20, 1996.
certify that the ISDS installed at Coyote Subdivision - Lot A, Gypsum, Colorado, was
done so according to the approved design specifications and drawings referenced
above.

RE: Sail Percolation Test Results and
Proposed Individual Sewage Dispersal System Design
Coyote Subdivision Lot A - Kim Hefty and Warren Lyon, Owners
Dear Mr. Merry:
The purpose of this letter is to provide the Eagle County Environmental Health
Department with a summary of the methods and findings of soil percolation testing at
the above referenced property and a proposed individual. sewage disposal system
design_ 1 conducted the soil percolation testing on June 15, 1995, at the request of the
owners. The testing was conducted in accordance with the procedures described in
the Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS) Regulations published by the Eagle
County Board of Health_ The proposed individual sewage disposal .system design is
based on the guidelines provided in these regulations.
Met
-
A total of three percolation test holes and one soil profile pit were advanced in
the area of the proposed soil absorption system, the locations and designations of
which are shown can the attached plot plan. The six-inch diameter test holes were
advanced to a total depth of 36 inches below ground surface using a mechanical auger.
The profile pit.was advanced to expose a soil profile extending approximately 8% feet
below ground surface using a rubber -tire backhoe.
After advancing the test hales to the approximate depth .of the bottom of the
Proposed absorption trench, each hole was filled completely with water at 5:00 PM on
Jutle 14, 1995. 1 arrived at the site at 2:00 PM on June 15, 1995 and.refilled the holes
with water to a depth of approximately 24 inches above the bottom of the hole and
waited until the water level had dropped to a depth of approximately 12 inches above
the bottom of the hole before taking percolation measurements. A wood stake
graduated in increments -of one inch was placed in each hole and the time required for
the water level to drop one inch was recorded with a stopwatch.

Findings
The slope of the ground surface in the area of the proposed 18DS is
approximately 3% to the west. The subsurface soil profiles appeared to be consistent
throughout the area where the septic tank and absorption trench will be located. No
bedrock or ground water was encountered in the soil profile pit. The soil profile pit
revealed tho following subsurface soil profile:
} 0 to 1.0 feet below ground surface - Reddish brown sandy clay loam.
1.0 to 2.0 feet below ground surface - Gray sandy gravel.
2.0 to 4.0 feet below ground surface - Gray sandy silt.
4.0 to 8.5 feet below ground surface - Reddish brown sandy silt.
The percolation test holes exhibited a range of percolation rates between S and
14 minutes per inch. The recorded percolation rates were faster near the interface of
the gravel and silt layers in each test hole (see the soil profile description above) and
slowed considerably after the water level dropped into the silt layer. Since the bottom
of the proposed absorption trench will be located at or very close to the interface of the
gravel and silt layers, I considered only'the percolation rates recorded Closest to the
bottom of each test hole for calculating the average percolation rate. As a result, I
conservatively calculated the average soil percolation rate to be 13 minutes per inch.
The percolation rates for each test hale shown on the attached drawing are as fellows:
Test Hole #1 = 14 minutes per inch;
Test Hole #2 = 12 minutes per inch; and
Test Hole #3 = 12 minutes per inch.
proposed ISDS t]esialn
The owners have submitted plans to the Eagle County Building Department for
approval to build a three -bedroom house on the property, The proposed sewage
disposal system for this residence includes a 1,2.50-gallon septic tank and 300 square
feet of absorption trench bottom area.
The septic tank will have a capacity of 1,250 gallons, will be constructed in
accordance with Section 4,07.01 of the Eagle County ISDS Regulations and will be
located in the approximate location shown on the attached plot plan in accordance with
the minimum horizontal distance requirements of Section 4,04.02 of the Eagle County
iSDS Regulations.
The absorption trench will have a minimum of 300 square feet of bottom area
and will be constructed using iNFILTRATOR'chambers instead of perforated pipe with
gravel_ The absorption trench will be constructed as two parallel trenches

connected in series, each 50 feet in ling h; 36cated perpendicular to the ling: of slope as

shown on the attached--plot.pfi5n--.-' Ther_e will be a minimum of six feet of undisturbed
earth between the two trenches. The bottoms of the parallel trenches will be
constructed at the same elevation and the INFILTRATOR* chambers will be backfiiled
with approximately one foot of native soil as shown on the attached cross-section
drawing. The trenches will'be installed on a sll'pe of approximately 3%, however the
final cover will be graded such that there will be one foot of native soil backfill over
each trench. Each bank of INFILTRATOR chambers will have a PVC riser pipe for the
purpose of observing wastewater levels in each trench.
The proposed ISDS system will be installed by David Ford, who is a licensed
Systems Contractor in Eagle County. After the system installation has been completed,
I will send you a letter certifying that the system was installed as described here, -
Sur MAr
I have performed soil percolation testing, and proposed a design for an individual
sewage disposal system based on the Eagle County ISDS Regulations for the property
referenced above at the request of the owners, Kim Hefty and Warren Lyon. please
contact the owners at (970) 524-9432 if you approve the installation of the ISDS
described here or feel free to contact me at (970) 247-4229 if You have any questions
regarding the proposed system. In addition to this facsimile, the original copy of this
letter will be sent to you vial regular mail.
