COLORADO 81631 FAX (303) 328-7207 After talking with you earlier today, I discussed the individual septic design that you submitted for the Bain residence, with Ray Merry, the Environmental Health Division Manager. Eagle County requires that you insure a four foot separation to bedrock, or ground water. Your soil profile information was only to four feet. Thus, we have no information on the soil conditions four feet below the bottom of the leach field, and no assurance of the required four foot separations. Also, the use of distribution boxes are discouraged in Eagle County, due to weather and geological conditions. We recommend the use of serial distribution, unless there are conditions that prohibit this. Serial distribution will allow the progressive formation of a bio-mat in the trenches, as needed, and therefore better effluent treatment. Please inform us of any conditions that prohibit the use of serially distributing the effluent for this system, or re -design the system so that it is serially distributed. The building permit, number 6978 will be on hold until these matters are addressed. The ISDS file number for this property is number 1467-95. Eight feet east and two feet north from the northwest building corner there was a building sewer cleanout. Northwest, from the northwest building corner, two more cleanouts were visible. One of them was at the inlet and the other one at the outlet of th 00 ? allon two compartment concrete septic tank. They excavated four trenches near the proposed leachfield. They filled the trenches with clean, coarse sand, passing U.S. Standard Siev� The sand was wetted and compacted. Four inch diameter perforated, PVC pipe was laid on top of the sand. They positioned the perforations on the bottom of the pipe. Each trench had 50-foot segment of the perforated pipe. The pipes were connected by serial distribution. Also, the perforated pipes in each trench had a slight slope (from 0.4 to 1.0 percent) in the flow direction. Average horizontal distance from pipe to pipe was about twelve feet. They installer two cleanouts in the leachfield. One was on the north end of the western most trench, and the other one was on the middle of the solid pipe connecting the north ends of the second and third trenches. Please follow the design recommendations for backfilling. They should cover the entire leachfield with a minimum of 12 inches of topsoil and revegetate.
