Subject: Interim Findings of Subsoil Study and Percolation Testing,
Proposed Residence, Tonner Creek, Eagle County, Colorado.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Adams:
As requested, we initiated the subsurface exploration and testing for the
proposed residence at the subject site. We understand that the plot plan of the site is
in progress and we can complete our work when it has been provided to us.
The subsoils encountered in the building and leach field area consist of a
mixture of gravel, cobble and small boulder size rock fragments in a silt and sand
matrix. No free water was encountered to the pit depths of 8 feet. The field
exploration and testing results are presented in the partially completed Figs. 2, 3 and
4, and Tables I and H.
The soils are loose to medium dense colluvium which are hydrocompactive and
tend to settle when wetted. Lightly loaded spread footing and heavily reinforced stem
wall foundation should be suitable for support of the residence with some risk of post
construction settlement. Precautions should be taken to minimize wetting beneath the
structure. The maximum footing bearing pressure should be taken as 1,000 psf. The
leach field area should be suitable for use of a conventional infiltration septic disposal
system.
We will complete our work within about 1 week after the site plan has been
provided. If you have any questions, please call.
Sincerely,
HEPWORTH-PAWLAK GEOTECHNICAL, INC.

2. Locations of exploratory pits were measured approximately by pacing from
features at the site.
3. Relative elevation between the exploratory pits was measured by instrument
