Subject: Percolation Testing, Proposed Residence, Tract 7, Wolcott Springs Subdivision,
Eagle County, Colorado
Job No. 4 117 94-1
Dear Mr. Madeiros:
As requested, we have performed percolation testing at the subject site. The work was done in
accordance with our Agreement for Geotechnical Engineering Services to you dated November
15, 1993. We previously observed the excavation for the proposed residence and presented our
observations and foundation design recommendations in a letter dated November 4, 1993, Job
No. 4 117 94.
Percolation testing was performed in the area of the proposed leach field in three previously
excavated and pre-soaked holes. One profile pit had been excavated with a backhoe to a depth
of about 8 feet. The soils observed in the profile pit consisted of about 4 feet of dark brown
organic topsoil overlying brown silty sand with gravel. No bedrock or groundwater was
observed in the profile pit. Results of the percolation testing are shown on Table I. The
reported average percolation rates are variable but the proposed leach field area should be
suitable for a conventional infiltration septic system.
While at the site we observed and sampled a stockpile of soil which is proposed as foundation
wall backfill. A gradation analysis of the stockpiled material is attached. Based on the results
of the gradation analysis and our experience we feel the lateral earth pressure on foundation
walls can be computed using an equivalent fluid pressure of 45 pcf for backfill consisting of the
stockpiled soil.
If you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance, please contact our office.
Sincerely,
CHEN-NORTHERN,
Thomas L. Allen, P. F

RE: Louis Medeiros Septic System
Dear Ms. Busch -Weak:
RECEIVED
EAGLE COUNTY
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Mr. Medeiros wanted to explore the possibility of relocating
his septic tank and absorption area east, where it will provide
shorter, more direct sewer service connections to the residence
and barn, and locate the septic tank in a location where it is
closer to a road to be pumped.
Before we presented a revised plan to Eagle County, we
wanted to verify percolation and soil profile results. The
results are attached, which indicate similar soil conditions as
the previously proposed absorption area.
Please review the revised site plan. If you have any
questions, please call.
Sincerely, t

INTRODUCTION ,
The Wolcott Springs Subdivision is located south of I-70 and east of Bellyache
Ridge Road, southeast of the I-70 Wolcott interchange. The site slopes at approximately
3 to 1 (horizontal to vertical) to the north.
PROPOSED USE
A 4 bedroom house, along with a bam which is to have a one bedroom guest unit
is proposed to be constructed on the lot. A three bedroom mobile home is to be
temporarily located at the site, which will be removed upon completion of construction
of the house.

Soil Profile Hole
The results of the soil profile hole observed by Chen Northern
appear to be consistent with the soil profile hole dug for
revised absorption area: about 4 feet of dark brown organic
topsoil overlying brown silty sand with gravel. No bedrock or
groundwater, or soil mottling was observed in the profile hole.
