Re: Lot 1, Travis Creek
Project No. 91489E
Dear Mr. Merry;
Subdivision
We have been retained by Long's Excavation to provide septic
system design services on the referenced lot. The lot is owned by
Mr. B. B. Anderson. Long's is a contractor for Mr. Anderson.
Mr. Anderson is proposing a four bedroom single family house
on Lot 1. It is now under construction. We understand that Mr.
Anderson plans to have intermittent occupancy through the winter
and spring starting near the end of December, 1991.
r zmrnarTssite investigation shows a shallow rock -layer
do and east of the house with relatively heavy tree cover:,
T is presents an awkward absorption bed design. Mr. Andersen
pr oses to combine his absorption bed with the proposed absorptio 0
bed a house to be built on Lot 4, Travis Creek, the adjacent
downhi rom Lot 1. This would be done next summer.
In the interim we a g at a 1,250 gallon septic
tank be installed now and operated as a vault per section 4.09.02
of the Eagle County regulations for Individual- Sewage Disposal
Systems. It is noted that Table 4 of the said regulations requires
a minimum capacity of 1,250 gallons.
As part of the preliminary design Inter -Mountain Engineering
performed three percolation tests in the most likely area of Lot 1
that could accommodate an absorption field. The average was 17.3
min/inch with a rock ledge at 3 feet. /

Re: Leach Field As -Built Plan Review
B.B. Andersen Residence - Lot 1, Travis Creek Subdivision
Project No. 92231E
Dear Mr. Andersen:
We have reviewed the faxed copy of the as -built drawing and
the associated septic easement drawing, prepared by Mr. Chuck
Whiteman, L.S.
The as -built drawing shows the location of the percolation
test holes approximately 30 feet east from the location shown on
the proposed septic system design drawing prepared by Inter -
Mountain Engineering on October 20, 1992 and submitted to the
county for approval.
The as -built leach field, consisting of 3 rows of 8, 9 and 8
chambers respectively, is located about 100 feet east of the
proposed leach field location.
The as -built leach field is located about 70 feet north of the
utility easement dedicated for Lot 1; however the leach field was
built within the soils tested as inspected on October 23, 1992.
The as -built leach field is inside the new septic easement for
Lot 1.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
Luiza Petrovska,

MEMORANDUM
TO: ISDS File #1205
FROM: Raymond P. Merry, REHS, Env. Health Di`
DATE: January 6, 1993
RE: Resolution of Permit Problems
On June 20, 1991, application was made to permit the installation
of a septic system to accommodate a four bedroom dwelling located
south of Wolcott, CO, near Bellyache Ridge road. The application
was originally assigned to permit file #1072. The property
owner, Mr. B.B. Andersen, was considering the subdivision of his
property to create four lots of approximately ten acres each.
Inter -Mountain Engineering was retained by Long's Excavating to
provide septic system design services for Mr. Andersen. Based on
the presence of bedrock outcroppings observed during the initial
site investigation, Inter -Mountain advised Mr. Andersen to
install a 1250 gallon septic tank to be used as a holding tank
until a permanent system could be installed the following year on
the adjacent lot. This would require a utility easement
dedicated during the subdivision process. Permit #1072 was then
issued for a 1250 gallon holding tank on September 27, 1991.
Based on geologic instability concerns raised during the
subdivision process, it was required that the septic system be
designed by a Registered Professional Engineer, incorporating
water saving devices into the dwelling fixtures. In addition, a
utility easement was identified on lot 4 of the final plat for
the placement of the septic system.
On October 21, 1992, application #ISDS 1205-92 was submitted to
allow completion of the system. There were a few comments made
on the engineered drawings that required clarification. One of
the comments was that the absorption area was located outside of
the utility easement. A call was placed to Luiza Petrovska,
Inter -Mountain Engineering to discuss these issues.
The next day, Mr. B.B. Andersen came to the office and informed
me the system was already installed by Long's Excavating. In
lieu of pursuing sanctions, Paul Long was contacted and warned
not to let it happen again. He assured me that it would not.
To resolve the easement issue, Luiza Petrovska of Inter -Mountain
stated that the original area identified during the subdivision
process was not capable of supporting a conventional system, and
that the area in which the absorption area was installed was more
appropriate. In addition, a new easement was recorded on Dec.
21, 1992, in book 597 at page 233, and an amended final plat is
being prepared.
In summary, the system is in substantial compliance with County
requirements. ISDS Permit File #1072 is now incorporated into
ISDS File #1205.

SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR
PROPOSED RESIDENCE
LOT 1, TRAVIS CREEK SUBDIVISION
EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO
PREPARED FOR:
B.B. ANDERSARK
PROJECT NO. 92231E
OCTOBER 1992
1
SCOPE
This report and the accompanying plan provide subsurface
sewage disposal recommendations for the B.B. Anderson Residence,
Lot 1, Travis Creek Subdivision on Bellyache Ridge, Eagle County,
Colorado.
SITE INVESTIGATION
The residence on Lot 1, Travis Creek Subdivision is
constructed and sewage disposal needs are being served by a holding
tank.
The proposed area for the leachfield is located within the
building envelope for Lot 4, Travis Creek Subdivision, and is
approximately 350 feet north from the residence on Lot 1. The
topography within the proposed leachfield area is moderate at
approximately 17 percent. The vegetation consisted of grass and
young aspen trees. There were rocks on the surface.
Several studies have been performed for the site in respect to
onsite subsurface individual sewage disposal system:
- Review of Subsurface Conditions Regarding Septic
Infiltration Disposal System, by Chen & Northern, Inc., March 18,
1992.
- Recommendations for Septic Systems for Lots 1 through 4 in
the Travis Creek Subdivision by Inter -Mountain Engineering, June 3,
1992.
- Geologic Reconnaissance Study Proposed Travis Creek
Subdivision, by Chen & Northern, Inc., June 10, 1992.
2
- Summary of Landslide Stability Findings, Proposed Travis
Creek Subdivision, by Chen & Northern, Inc., June 24, 1992.
- Reduction of the Average Daily Flow for a Septic System
Design, by Inter -Mountain Engineering, July 15, 1992.
The three percolation test holes were dug by Mr. B.B. Anderson
and were located between the deep Test Pit Nos. 4A and 4B. The
soil profile exposed in Test Pit No. 4A consisted of 2 feet of
topsoil underlain by 5 feet of reddish -brown clay over one foot of
reddish -brown gravelly CLAY. Test Pit No. 4B had 3 feet of topsoil
over 4.5 feet of light brown gravelly CLAY over 0.5 feet of
weathered SHALE. There was no solid bedrock or groundwater
encountered.
The three percolation tests had the following results:
Perc Hole No. 1 Perc Hole No. 2 Perc Hole No. 3
60 min/inch 25.7 min/inch 45 min/inch
The average percolation rate is 44 minutes per inch. For
percolation rates over 30 minutes per inch, subsurface absorption
fields with seepage beds are not permitted, according to the Eagle
County Regulations, Chapter IV, Individual Sewage Disposal Systems,
Table 5.
DESIGN CRITERIA
The B.B. Anderson residence has four bedrooms with three
bathrooms. Due to the specific geologic conditions on the site,
which are water sensitive, measures have been taken by the
homeowner to reduce the wastewater flow.
3
Toilets with flushing capacity of 2.5 gallons per use have
been installed. This capacity reduces the gallons per person per
day from 24.8 to 8.8, based on the EPA Manual, Table 4-2. Also on
all of the shower heads a water suppression devices have been
installed. A six percent reduction was applied reducing the
wastewater flow for bath/shower use from 14.7 to 13.8 gallons per
person per day. No other reductions were applied.
The estimated flow rate based on the above wastewater flow
reduction is as follows:
Bath/Shower
Dishwasher
Kitchen Sink
Additional for Garbage Grinders
Laundry Washer
Lavatory
Toilet
The Average Daily Flow Q avg. is:
13.8
1.8
4.4
1.4
19.5
8.4
8.8
58.1 gal/person/day.
Q avg = 4bdrms X 2 persons/bdrm X 58.1 gal/person/day
Q avg = 464.8 gallons/day
Maximum daily flow Q max, equals 150 percent of average daily
sewage flow, Q avg.
Q max = Q avg X 150 percent
Q max = 464.8 gallons/day x 150 percent
Q max = 697.2 gal/day
4
SEPTIC TANK
The septic tank.is sized for 30 hours detention.
697.2 gallons/day x 1 day x 30 hrs = 871.5 gallons
24 hrs
The Eagle County Regulations require a minimum of 1250
gallon tank for a 4 bedroom residence.
Use 1250 gallon, two compartment septic tank.
ABSORPTION AREA
The Conventional Absorption Trench System and the
Infiltrator standard chamber system were considered for
disposal. The Infiltrator Standard Chamber System was
selected due to the limited area disturbance to the site of
1050 s.f. vs. 2400 s.f.
The Absorption Area A= max IT, where T is the average
5
percolation rate.
A = 697.2 144 = 925 s.f.
5
Reduction of 50 percent is allowed by Eagle County for
the use of the Infiltrator Standard Chamber in a trench
configuration.
925 s.f. - (925 X 0.50) = 462.5 s.f.
The size of the Infiltrator standard chamber is
1' X 3' X 6.25' with an absorption area of 18.75 s.f. Based
on this, 25 Standard Infiltrator Chambers are needed. The
chambers are to be placed in three trenches along the contours
5
of the leachfield area, as shown on the plan. The trenches
are to be connected in series with a high level overflow
distribution.
SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS
The recommended Subsurface Sewage Disposal System for the B.B.
Anderson Residence on Lot 1, Travis Creek Subdivision on Bellyache
Ridge, Eagle County, Colorado should consist of the following:
- One two compartment 1250 gallon septic tank
- 25 Standard Infiltrator Chambers laid in 3 trenches
Due to the distant location of a suitable area for the
leachfield from the existing residence, clean -out ports have to be
installed at distances not to exceed 100 feet.
An inspection of the system before backfilling, should be made
by a representative of this office.
6
CONCLUSIONS
This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of
B.B. Anderson for the specific application as stated in the Design
criteria.
The calculations in this report are based in part on
information furnished to us by others. The findings and
recommendations of this report have been obtained in accordance
with accepted professional engineering practices. There is no
other warranty, either expressed or implied.
