The OWTS design includes an evaluation of the existing system, permit 2506-06IS, to serve both the existing 4 bedroom residence and connect and serve the proposed 1 bedroom Auxiliary Dwelling Unit (ADU). The alteration of the OWTS consists of a new 1,000 gallon three-compartment Valley Precast septic tank (model #1000T-3CP-F-HH, total volume 1500 gallon), installed for the primary treatment of effluent from the ADU. The tank will be equipped with an Orenco PF500511 High Head pump installed in the third compartment, and effluent filter in the tee between the second and third compartments, with set the pump floats to deliver 90 gallons of effluent on demand approximately 161 feet to the fourth row of chambers in the existing serial distribution soil treatment area, as shown on the design drawing. Contact Eagle County Environmental Health and the design engineer well in advance of requesting inspections prior to backfilling any component of the OWTS. The design engineer is responsible for conducting all inspections necessary to certify the installation and assure functionality of the system. System certification, along with photos and a record drawing is required to be submitted to, and approved by, Eagle County Environmental Health prior to the use of the system or occupancy of the dwelling. This OWTS permit was approved for the expansion of the OWTS (permit 2506-06IS) to connect and serve a newly proposed 1 bedroom ADU and the existing 4 bedroom residence. Additional information about the maintenance your septic system needs can be accessed through our website links, provided on the Environmental Health Department’s septic system resource page. Be aware that changes in the use of your property or alterations of your building may require commensurate changes to, or relocation of, your septic system. Landscape features, trees with tap roots, irrigation systems and parking areas above the soil treatment area can cause premature system failure. It is equally important that you notice and immediately repair dripping faucets and hissing toilets as this will certainly cause the system to fail. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact us at (970) 328 -8755 and reference the OWTS septic permit number. The purpose of our site visit was to inspect the installation of the new septic tank and the connection to the existing leachfield. The system was installed in overall compliance with the ADU OWTS Design, dated November 9, 2019. At the time of the inspection we observed the following: A new building sewer line and a cleanout were constructed on the west side of the Detached garage (with the apartment above) at about 14.5 feet south from the NW corner, as shown on the attached as-built sketch. The building sewer line was 4-inch diameter SCH40PVC from the building to just before the cleanout and then 4-inch diameter SDR35 PVC pipe. They installed 1000-gallons, three compartments, precast, concrete, septic tank by Valley Precast with an effluent filter in the second compartment and an Orenco PF500511 high-head pump assembly with a filter in the third compartment. The inlet of the tank had the Tee installed. The tank access ports had corrugated, plastic risers with secured, green, plastic covers. The covers were secured with nuts, bolts and screws. All compartments had 48 inches risers. The effluent line from the pump chamber to the soil treatment area was 1.5-inch diameter SCH40PVC with a continuous slope to drain back into the pump chamber once the pump is shut off. They connected the effluent line into the third row of infiltrator chambers of the existing soil treatment area. A 20-foot, 1.5-inch diameter SCH40 PVC, distribution lateral, perforated at the top with 1/4-inch holes at 3- ft intervals, was suspended from the top of the infiltrator chambers with plastic ties. The control panel for the pump was being installed on the north side of the building, facing the road. The pump start-up will be done by Valley Precast. There is no other warranty either expressed or implied. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. Sincerely, LKP Engineering, Inc.
