RE: The Bouchard Residence located on Lot 19, Section 4, Township 8 South, Range 86
West of the Sth P. M, and numbered as 1921 Cedar Drive, Eagle County, Colorado,
Dear Jane,
This company has conducted an inspection of the ref6rencad property for the purpose Of
evaluating the on -site wastewater disposal system serving the existing dvmlling and the
feasibility and suitability of using this existing system with the proposed addition to the log
cabin. The inspection was dons at your request. This letter is an opinion of the suitability
and compliance of the septic system with local and State public health codes and accepted
sanKary practioes.
The house was originally constructed in the 1975. The residence is on a tract of
approximately 16 aems.
The existing log cabin residence is a house with one bedroom and one bathroom and
aWoximately 600 square feet- There is no garbage disposal installed in the house. We
understand that it is your intention to add an additional 800 square feet to the house and
make it a two bedroom, two baftoom residence.
The house site is located,on a ridge wfth a gently rolling topography, sloping at less than a
10% grade toward Frying Pan Road. Hov*ver portions of the property are much steeper
and in excess of 30%, Typical of this area, the vegetation pattern of pinyon pine and Utah
juniper woodlands covered most of the property.
Water to the residence is supplied from a well drilled to a depth of 305 feet with a stafis
water level of 280 feet below the ground surface, The well is located a sufficient distance
from obvious sources of contamination, such as the septic system and ground water is
suffidently deep, to preclude a chance of seepage into the aquifer.

We were able .to locate a permit for the septic system by revievAng the Eagle County
Environmental Health Department records attached. The size and construction of the
septic system, as indicated, was in compliance with the regulations and requirements at the
time of final approval. The permit indicated that the septic tank was a minimum of 750
gallons in volume and that the absorption area consisted of a seepage pit ten feet square
on the surface and at least ten feet in depth. The calculated effective absorption area of
the seepage pit is 400 square feet. Enclosed is a drawing of the septic tank -seepage pit
location
A visual inspection of the premises indicated that the sewage system is apparently
continuing to function satisfactorily at this time. The fiberglass septic tank, actually
approximately 1000 gallons in volume, was opened and pumped at the time of inspection.
The water level in the tank, before pumping, was normal. An abnormally high water level
over the effluent pipe is often an indication that the absorption area may be plugged, but
this was not the case in this system.
The septic tank was provided proper inlet and outlet tees and had a typical baffle wall
between chambers. The overlapping manhole lids were within a foot of finished grade.
There was no surfacing septic tank effluent in the absorption area and no odors that would
indicate that wastewater was breaching to the surface of the ground.
The soils of the area are a fine red sandy loam with a moderate amount of sandstone
fragments- The moderate permeability, reported in the septic permit file, was 20 minutes
per inch and is considered suitable for septic system installation.
J-' MFU7
The percolation rates of the soils were measured at an average of 20 minutes per inch.
The minimum Eagle County requirements for this septic system installation, after the
proposed remodeling is completed, are based on an eventual sewage flow to the
absorption area of 300 gallons per day for the residence. This flow would still require a
septic tank of 750 or 1000 gallons in volume, and a minimum of 400 square feet of standard
absorption pit for the two bedroom house.
On the basis of this iryformation, -Ae conclude that the existing septic system is sufficiently
large to accommodate the wastewater flow including that generated from the addition to the
house. It is our opinion that no changes to the septic system are required at this time.
