Sopris Engineering has performed site visits to inspect, measure and document the as built conditions of the constructed ISDS system. The as -built size and relative location of the new ISDS system components is delineated on the attached drawing. Also attached is the completed Eagle County document "ISDS Final Inspection Completeness Form". The absorption trench facility was constructed utilizing serial distribution. Each trench was installed level and is complete with an inspection port. Adjacent trenches have a horizontal separation of approximately 6 feet. The double compartment, 1250-gallon concrete septic tank system has been installed with an approved effluent filter. A two-way clean out has been installed between the house and the tank. The total as -built trench absorption area is 930 sf, utilizing 60 chambers. The 10% additional area from 4 extra chambers was not installed due to excavation constraints. However the 60 chambers installed provide adequate absorption/treatment area for the design flow, based on 4 bedrooms, sized utilizing the approved LTAR per discussion with Bill Carlson. The ISDS components have been installed in accordance with Eagle County ISDS Regulations; the Sopris Engineering Report and the design drawings dated April 11, 2001. We have forwarded a copy of this letter with attachments to Eagle County Environmental Health Division. Please retain this copy for your records and As -built documentation use. Your new system requires limited maintenance based on use, however please be advised that the components should be inspected bi-annually and the septic tank should be pumped every 2-3 years. The purpose of our investigation was to determine subsurface conditions and percolation rates for an Onsite Wastewater System (OWS). SITE CONDITIONS The lot is located in The Summit and Oak Ridge III, along Milburn Court, Eagle County, Colorado. The lot was vacant at the time of our investigation. The location of the profile pit and percolation holes is presented on Fib ure 1. The lot slopes approximately 9% to the southeast in the area for the proposed Onsite Wastewater System (OWS) and is as steep as 16% in the southeast portions of the lot. A thick cover of scrub oak exists on the lot. SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION A subsurface investigation was performed by digging one profile pit and three percolation holes 29 to 37 inches deep at the locations indicated on Figure 1. Subsurface materials in the profile pit consisted of a 1- foot sandy clay root zone, underlain by calcareous, silty, sand to the maximum depth explored of 9 feet. No ground water was encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 30 to 60 minutes per inch (NTI). The average percolation rate is 43 PI. Percolation Test Results are attached as Table 1. LIMITATIONS Our investigation is based on data submitted and conditions encountered. If subsurface conditions considerably different from those described in this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the effect on the proposed OWS. The purpose of our observation was to evaluate subsurface conditions at the bearing level of the proposed residence. The site is a 2.6-acre lot located in a rural residential area in Eagle County, Colorado. The proposed residence will be a 3-bedroom residence with wood frame construction and having a walkout basement to the southeast. The subsurface materials in Test Pit-1 consisted of 1 foot of sandy, clay topsoil, underlain by stiff, moist, light brown calcareous sandy clay to 3.5 feet, underlain by medium dense to dense, moist, white, silty sand with calcium carbonate cement to the maximum depth excavated of 12 feet. Subsurface materials in Test Pit-2 consisted of 1 foot of sandy, clay topsoil, underlain by stiff, moist, light brown calcareous sandy clay to 4 feet, underlain by medium dense to dense, moist, white, silty sand with calcium carbonate cement to the maximum depth excavated of 10 feet. The results of our observations indicate a spread footing foundation system is appropriate. Spread footings supported the by silty sand should be designed for a maximum allowable bearing pressure of 1500 pounds per square foot (PSF). Footings should bear on the undisturbed soil. Any loosened soil must be removed prior to the placement of footings. The soil exposed in the excavation has a nil expansion potential. A minimum of three feet of frost protection is necessary for the footing foundation. Minimum footing widths of at least 16 inches are recommended for continuous footings, and 24 inches square for concrete pads, which support columns. Larger sized footings may be necessary depending on the load of the structure. The risk for wetting of foundation soils can be reduced by carefully planned and maintained surface drainage. Backfill at foundation walls should be compacted. The ground surface surrounding the structure should be sloped to drain away from the structure in all directions. A minimum slope of 12 inches in the first 10 feet down and away from walls must be established away from foundation walls. Roof downspouts and drains should discharge well beyond the limits of all backfill. Excessive wetting or drying of the subgrade should be avoided during construction. Below -grade walls must be designed for lateral loads. An equivalent fluid pressure of 35 pounds per cubic foot (PCF) should be used for "active" conditions such as site retaining walls. For "at rest" conditions for basements, we recommend an equivalent fluid pressure of 50 PCF. These pressures do not include hydrostatic loads or surcharge loads such as vehicles or sloping backfill To reduce the risk of "wet basement" conditions or a buildup of hydrostatic pressures, an exterior foundation drain should be installed around the below foundations. The drain should discharge to a sump pit or "daylighted" by gravity discharge away from the residence. Details of the subsurface drains are presented on Figure 5. The onsite soil is suitable for support of slab -on -grade construction such as garage slabs and exterior flatwork. Where any fill is required, the onsite soil and or clean granular fill should be compacted to a minimum of 95% of the maximum standard Proctor density as determined by ASTM D698 to support slabs such as exterior flatwork.
