Box 10059 Aspen, Colorado 81612 Job No. 197 566 Subject: Percolation Testing, Proposed Residence, Caretaker Unit and Bam, 35 Acre Parcel, 0749 Hooks Spur, Eagle County, Colorado Dear Mr. Horswitz: As requested, we have conducted percolation testing at the subject site to evaluate the feasibility of an infiltration septic disposal system. Two profile pits, 81/ and 8 feet deep, and six shallow backhoe pits were excavated at the locations shown on Fig. 1. Testing was performed for each location. Percolation test holes were hand dug (about 1 foot deep by 1 foot in diameter) at the bottom of the shallow backhoe pits and pre-soaked on September 16, 1997. The profile pit east of the residence was 81h feet deep and the subsoils encountered below 2 feet of topsoil consisted of clayey silty sand and gravel with scattered cobbles. The barn profile pit was 8 feet deep and the subsoils below 1 foot of topsoil also consisted of clayey silty sand and gravel with cobbles. No free water was encountered in the profile pits and the subsoils were moist. Percolation tests were performed in the sand and gravel soils on September 17, 1997 by a representative of Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. The percolation test results are summarized on Table I. The percolation test results indicate an infiltration rate between 23 and 45 minutes per inch with an average of 33 minutes per inch for the proposed residence and caretaker unit area. A rate between 45 and 60 minutes per inch with an average rate of 55 minutes per inch was indicated for the area below the proposed barn. The percolation rates were based on the last three readings of each set of tests. The slower rate for the area below the barn was most likely due to cobbles present in the bottom of the test holes. Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and percolation test results, the tested sites appear suitable for conventional infiltration septic disposal systems. The systems should be excavated in the granular soils beneath the topsoil. If you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance, please call our office. Sincerely, ORTH - PAWLAK Jordy%Z.
