Area -equivalents are the horizontal area per chamber unit or area per linear foot that can be used to calculate the number of chamber units needed for an absorption field area as calculated in accordance with Section VIII.C.1.d. of the "Coloruclo State Board of Health Guideline.; on Individual Sewage age Disposal Systems " J C(T 1003-6 (Guidelines). Per Guidelines Section VII1.C. Le.(' - "Reduction in soil absorption area may be allowed for gravelless soil absorption systems upon approval of the Department and at the discretic n of the local health officer or his/her designated agent." Since 1991, the WQCD has allowed up to 50% reduction in absorption field size in trench applications and up to 40% reduction in bed applications from the absorption field sires determined using the techniques in the Guidelines. On the basis of the "'Colorado Srate Board of fieallh Guidelines on Individual Sewage Disposal Syslems" S CCR 1003-6 (Guidelines) Section V III.C. Le.(3), the Division has reviewed the revised dimensions and resulting area -equivalent values. The differences are small. However, the Division is issuing this revised approval letter to be consistent with the new actual production values. Guidelines Section VIII.C.I .e.(3) provides that "Reduction in soil absorption area may be allowed for gravelless soil absorption systems upon approval of the Department and at the discretion of the local health officer or his/her designated agent."
