HomeMy WebLinkAboutR21-022 Designating April 2021 as the Month of the Young Child DocuSign Envelope ID:9C1 FD77E-138A-4050-AD29-6EF5DA82D681 Commissioner McQueeney moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO.2021- 022 Resolution Designating April 2021 as the Month of the Young Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month in Eagle County. WHEREAS,Children are fundamental to Eagle County, Colorado's future success, prosperity, and well-being and are our most precious residents. Supporting families of young children is crucial in order to create a better Eagle County for all; and WHEREAS, local early childhood organizations, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, are celebrating the Month of the Young Child; and WHEREAS, local social services organizations, in conjunction with the Department of Human Services, are recognizing April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect as part of a nationwide public awareness campaign; and WHEREAS,approximately 4,300 children from birth to age five call Eagle County their home. Demographics suggest that the number of young children in Eagle County will increase over the next fifteen years; and WHEREAS,research shows that high-quality early learning and education opportunities have the capacity to benefit all children, and that low-income and at-risk children show the greatest gains; and WHEREAS,research shows that the following protective factors reduce child abuse and neglect in our communities: knowledge of parenting and child development, strong social connections, positive attachments, concrete supports for parents, social and emotional well-being; and WHEREAS,every dollar spent on early care and education contributes $2.25 to the Colorado state economy according to the Early Milestones research; and WHEREAS,local early childhood and social service organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, and family well-being to build better futures for everyone in Eagle County; and WHEREAS,public policies that support the whole family across multiple domains including supports for early learning for all young children are crucial to young children's futures. Now,therefore, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado: THAT,April 2021 be proclaimed"The Month of the Young Child"and"Child Abuse Prevention Month" in Eagle County, and that we call upon all residents, community and faith-based organizations, businesses, and government agencies to create alliances and build their efforts to strengthen Eagle County, Colorado's families and target investments in strengthening families in our communities.
