WHEREAS, It appearing to the Board of County Commis-
sioners of Eagle County, Colorado, that that part of State High-
way No.4, which passes over Battle Mountain between Red Cliff and
Minturn, is not only one of the most important portions of said
State Highway No.4, but is also the best known throughout the en
tire State, and if not properly taken care of and kept up, is one
of the most dangerous roads in Eagle County, and
WHEREAS, It appearing to the Board that said portion of
the State Highway is of more importance to the State at large than
to the people of Eagle County, both by reason of its importance
as a part of the Ocean to Ocean Highway and its value to the State
as a scenic attraction and its advertising value, and
WHEREAS, The sum of $3,637.90 was spent on said Battle
Mountain Road during the year 1923, in keeping said road open and
in condition for travel, alloTing nothing for permanent improve -
ments and the necessary work of sloping the hillside to keep the
road from filling with sliding rock'and dirt, and allowing nothing
for permanent surfacing work that is badly needed on said road.
AND WHEREAS, The County of .Eagle is financially unable
to give a greater portion of its county road fund towards the
amount that would be needed to put and keep the Battle Mountain
Road in the condition it requires,
NOW THEREFO_�'E BE IT RESOLVED, That the State Highway
Department be rquested and is hereby petitioned to set aside and
appropriate for the use of said Battle Mountain Road, the sum of
Four Thousand Dollars. Said amount to be in addition to the money
now appropriated on the fifty -fifty basis with Eagle County for
the upkeep of said road, with no requirement that Eagle County
•
appropriate a similiar sum.
