WHEREAS, It appearing to the Board of County Commissioners of Eagle County, Colorado, after a careful review of the road require- ments of said County for the year 1924, and a careful check on the work done on said roads for the year 1923, that certain parts and portions of said State Highway as it passes through Eagle County, stand out as of paramount importance and necessity for construction and completion during the coming year of 1924. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the following construc- tion budget for the year 1924, be recommended to the State Highway Department of the State of Colorado, viz: 1. That State Highway No.11, between Wolcott and State Bridge, be made a Federal Aid Project in accordance with the Resolution here- tofore passed by this Board on the 4th day of September,A.D.1923. A copy of which resolution being now before the State Highway Advisory Board. 2. That the State Highway Department get back of and push the construction of the Holy Cross Road, also known as the Shrine Road, as it is the opinion of this Board of County Commissioners that the early completion of this Shrine Road will be of immense value to the State of Colorado, both from an advertising standpoint and from the great number of tourists it will bring from other states. 3. That a new bridge be constructed across Turkey Creek,at that point on said Creek where the State Highway leaves the Town of Red Cliff and commences the ascent of Battle Mountain. The present bridge being in bad condition and setting at an improper angle, making a difficult turn for cars coming down Battle Mountain. 4. That a new bridge,be constructed across Lake Creek on State Highway No.4, as the bridge now in place is old and is not sufficient for the heavy travel now passing over it. 5. That the State Highway Department give careful considera- tion and make a thorough investigation of the proposed change in the present State Highway from Pando to Red Cliff with a view of con- structing said road down the Eagle River. It being the opinion of this Board that said proposed change would permit a good road to be constructed and maintained at considerable less cost than the present road down Homestake Creek; that the new road down Eagle River would - -- 1 - -- • out out two railroad crossings, one of which is especially dangerous as the view of the railroad track near the Red Cliff Depot, is cut off by the high bluff standing between the depot and the road, and causing careful drivers to come to a atop before rounding said point. The present road down Homestake is one that cannot be made into a good r(1)ad even with the expenditure of large sums of money. The pro posed ew road down the Eagle River could be made a boulevard with very 1 the cost for maintainence, as it would be high enough on the hill to strike the solid formation and avoid the tendency the lower part of said hill has to slide; it would also be high enough to drain itself and would be on the sunny side of the mountain making it an earlier and later road than the present road down the Homestake. 14 addition to this, it would be a shorter and more direct route from P,ndo to Red Cliff and a more fitting link in the Ocean to Ocean Route. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting, and a copy sent to the State High- way Department at Denver, Colorado, and a copy sent to H.L.Jenness Divisi n Engineer, at Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
