BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION No. 2015- 0'661
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ROARING FORK SCHOOL DISTRICT'S
BALLOT ISSUE 3-B
WHEREAS, the Eagle County Board of Commissioners (hereinafter the"Board") is in
support of the Roaring Fork School District's (hereinafter the"District") Ballot Measure 3-B for
the sole purpose of acquiring, constructing, repairing and improving district capital assets; and
WHEREAS, the measure, if passed, would fund projects that are essential to providing
the best education possible for children in the Roaring Fork Valley by:
• Providing local matching money required for the District to receive$9 million in
state grants, which are not required to be repaid, under the"BEST"program for
the preservation, renovation and improvement of the Glenwood Springs
Elementary School;
• Renovating school entrances to improve student safety and provide safe learning
environments;
• Constructing a new Pre-K-8 school at the District's Eastbank property between
Glenwood Springs and Carbondale to relieve overcrowding and address
enrollment growth;
• Acquiring or constructing affordable rental housing in Basalt, Carbondale and
Glenwood Springs to attract and retain District teachers and staff;
• Repairing and upgrading the Basalt Middle School Auditorium;
• Updating, revitalizing and extending the useful life of middle school facilities in
Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs to provide modern learning
environments;
• Modernizing school building heating and cooling systems by replacing outdated
HVAC units and make other energy efficiency improvements;
• Acquiring land to plan for a future school in the El Jebel area to address future
enrollment growth in the District.
WHEREAS, this measure will allow the Roaring Fork School District to issue bonds to
cover approximately$146.8 million in projects; and
WHEREAS,provisions of state law, particularly C.R.S. §1-45-117(1)(b)(III), allow
Eagle County to put forth this resolution as a statement of support for Ballot Measure 3-B.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of the
County of Eagle, State of Colorado:
THAT, the Eagle County Commissioners support the Roaring Fork School
District's Ballot Measure 3-B to issue bonds to cover approximately$146.8 million in projects,
and encourage the citizens of the Roaring Fork Valley to extend their support to this important
measure.
THAT, the passage of this resolution shall be reported and distributed through
established, customary means.
