HomeMy WebLinkAboutR14-009 2014 Election Cycle Re-Establishment and Expansion of Size Commissioner `-'t S I41LX— moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION RE-ESTABLISHING ELECTION PRECINCTS FOR PARTISAN ELECTIONS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. (X) I WHEREAS, the county clerk and recorder of each county must divide the county into as many election precincts for all general, primary, and congressional vacancy elections as is convenient for the eligible electors of the county; and WHEREAS, in a county that uses an electronic or electromechanical voting system, the county clerk and recorder, subject to approval by the board of county commissioners, shall establish at least one precinct for every one thousand five hundred active eligible electors; and WHEREAS, in 2013 state law was changed, requiring that all Primary and November Elections administered by the county be conducted by mail ballot, eliminating the need for precinct polling places; and WHEREAS,the elimination of neighborhood precinct polling places reduces the need to limit the number of voters in each precinct; and WHEREAS, the county clerk and recorder may establish one precinct for every two thousand active eligible electors subject to approval by the board of county commissioners; and WHEREAS, the Eagle County Board of County Commissioners (the "Board") is authorized pursuant to Section 1-5-101, C.R.S., and it is in the best interests of the voters of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado, to expand the maximum number of active eligible electors in each precinct to two thousand; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT, the County Clerk and Recorder is hereby authorized to establish at least one precinct for every two thousand active eligible electors. THAT, this Resolution is necessary for the public health, safety and welfare of the citizenry of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado.
