HomeMy WebLinkAboutR12-062 Elder Abuse Awareness Day Commissioner 51 N1\-Ai 1 0 -ln oved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2012 - RESOLUTION DESIGNATING JUNE 19, 2012 AS EAGLE COUNTY ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY WHEREAS, Eagle County's older adults are valued members of our community; and WHEREAS, abuse of older adults is a tragedy inflicted on a vulnerable segment of the population and is an ever increasing problem in today's society that crosses all socio- economic boundaries; and WHEREAS, elder abuse is most often defined as any act that harms an older adult or jeopardizes his or her health or welfare; and WHEREAS, combating abuse of older adults will help improve the quality of life for all citizens of our communities and will allow older adults to continue to live as independently as possible and contribute to the life and vibrancy of Eagle County; and WHEREAS, Eagle County's older adults should be treated with respect and dignity as they continue to serve as leaders, mentors, volunteers and important and active members of our communities; and WHEREAS, the well -being of Eagle County's older adults is in the interest of all and further adds to the well -being of Eagle County's communities; and WHEREAS, Eagle County honors the countless contributions of its older adults and recognizes all efforts to end elder abuse as vital to the interests of the citizens of this county. « w NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT June 19, 2012 be proclaimed Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Eagle County. THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that this Resolution is necessary for the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado.
