CO 201205660 TEAK J SIMONTON Po: 3 04:40 :43PM 03/22/2012 REC: 50.00 DOC: 5 11101111 III HII OI 1 III 1 III 1 11011110 X11 CommissionerKWt,.,.t ys-t moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2012- tJ Z y A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT AND RECOGNITION OF THE BASALT SIGN PROGRAM TO BE IMPLEMENTED BY THE TOWN OF BASALT WITHIN PORTIONS OF UNINCORPORATED EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO WHEREAS, the County of Eagle and the Town of Basalt rely upon and encourage the tourist economy and its contribution to the economic health of the County, the Town and the State of Colorado; and WHEREAS, the Colorado Department of Transportation, pursuant to C.R.S. 43- 1-420, granted authority to local governments to place LOGOS signs and tourist oriented directional signs on state highways for the purpose of informing travelers of local businesses and services; and WHEREAS, in 2011, the Eagle County Board of Commissioners passed Resolution No. 2011 -111 authorizing placement of Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) LOGOS signs and tourist oriented directional signs within CDOT rights -of -way located within unincorporated Eagle County; and WHEREAS, in 2011, the Town of Basalt, in conjunction with the Basalt Chamber of Commerce and the 82 or Bust Committee, developed a comprehensive sign program with the intent of beautification and improved way finding to local businesses, amenities and tourist attractions. The Basalt Sign Program is to phase out and replace CDOT LOGOS signs over time and replace them with new signs administered by the Town of Basalt. Existing LOGOS signs are presently located within CDOT rights -of- way located in the vicinity of the Town of Basalt, inclusive of the unincorporated region of the Roaring Fork Valley and El Jebel; and WHEREAS, this Resolution authorizes the Town of Basalt to replace existing LOGOS signs and tourist oriented directional signs with new signs administered by the Town of Basalt consistent with the Basalt Sign Program on CDOT rights -of -way within I 201205660 1 OF 3 that portion of unincorporated Eagle County located within the Roaring Fork Valley and El Jebel vicinity. WHEREAS, in all other regions of unincorporated Eagle County, Board of County Commissioner Resolution No. 2011 -111, which authorized placement of CDOT LOGOS signs and tourist oriented directional signs within CDOT rights -of -way, shall remain in full force and effect. WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners believes it to be in the best interest of the Town of Basalt, the El Jebel vicinity and the Roaring Fork Valley to allow the Town of Basalt to implement the Basalt Sign Program within unincorporated Eagle County on the terms outlined in the foregoing recitals. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT, implementation of the Basalt Sign Program by the Town of Basalt within CDOT rights -of -way located in the Roaring Fork Valley / El Jebel vicinity of unincorporated Eagle County is hereby authorized. THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners finds, determines and declares that this Resolution is necessary for the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado.
