HomeMy WebLinkAboutR11-117 Increasing Rates for the Landfill Commissioner J t11/14— moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2011- 1 t INCREASING THE RATES FOR THE EAGLE COUNTY LANDFILL AND AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2006 -124 WHEREAS, pursuant to its powers, including but not limited to those set forth in C.R.S. §30 -11 -107, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado (the "Board ") owns and operates Eagle County Landfill; and WHEREAS, the Board has determined that as nearly as possible, the cost of operating the Eagle County Landfill should be paid from user fees rather than taxes; and WHEREAS, the Citizens of Eagle County have expressed their desire to support waste diversion efforts at the landfill and continue to fund the county -wide recycling program through landfill user fees; and WHEREAS, the Board has deemed it necessary to increase fees in order to generate sufficient funds for operations and regulatory mandates, including but not limited to those set forth in 6 CCR 1007 -2. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: 1. That the rates for the use of the Eagle County Landfill be modified as follows: Compacted waste $39.00 per ton; effective January 1, 2012 Mixed waste $29.00 per ton; effective January 1, 2012 These rates shall include the charge of one dollar and thirty cents ($1.30) per ton for commercial waste, thirteen cents ($0.13) per car or van and twenty -six cents ($0.26) per pick -up and trailer which use Eagle County Landfill where such funds are paid quarterly to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment as a funding mechanism for the Hazardous Substance Response Fund and the Solid Waste Fund. 2. All scrap tires brought to the landfill for disposal will continue to be charged on a "whole" basis; $4 each for scrap tires separated from trash; $6 each for scrap tires mixed with trash. 1 3. That the rates and fees not amended by this resolution and set forth in Resolution 2006 -124, dated January 1, 2007 remain in effect. 4. That the punch card system administered by Eagle County Landfill will continue to be offered to Eagle County residents. 5. That the fees to Senior Citizens (age 65 years or older) for dumping their own residential trash continue to be waived. 6. That this Resolution shall be effective January 1, 2012. 7. That this Resolution is necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Eagle County, Colorado.
