HomeMy WebLinkAboutR09-108 2010 Census SupportCommissioner ~ ti-~ ~ ti moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION N0.2009 - ~ ~ G IN THE MATTER OF SUPPORTING THE 2010 CENSUS WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Eagle, State of Colorado (hereinafter the "Board"), is authorized, pursuant to state enabling legislation including, but not limited to, C.R.S. 30-28- 101, et seq., to plan for and regulate the use and development of land in the unincorporated territory of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado, for the purpose of promoting the health, safety, convenience, order, prosperity, and welfare of the present and future inhabitants of the County of Eagle; and WHEREAS an accurate census count is vital to our community and residents' well-being by helping planners determine where to locate schools, day care centers, roads and public transportation, hospitals and other facilities, and achieving an accurate and complete count of the nation's growing and changing population; WHEREAS more than $400 billion per year in federal and state funding is allocated to states and communities based, in part, on census data; WHEREAS census data helps determine how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and often is used for the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils and voting districts; WHEREAS the 2010 Census creates jobs that stimulate economic growth and increase employment; WHEREAS the information collected by the census is confidential and protected by law; WHEREAS, the Board finds and determines that the support of the Census 2010 is necessary and designed for the purpose of promoting the health, safety, convenience, order, prosperity and welfare of the present and future inhabitants of Eagle County and are consistent with the County's goals, policies and plans, including the Comprehensive Land Use Plan; and WHEREAS, based on the evidence, testimony, exhibits, and study of the Comprehensive Plan for the unincorporated areas of Eagle County, comments of the Eagle County Department of Community Development, comments of public officials and agencies, and comments from all interested parties and stakeholders, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado, finds as follows: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT, we will support the goals and ideals for the 2010 Census and disseminate 2010 Census information to encourage those in our community to participate; Pa~~c 1 of 2 THAT, we will encourage people in our community to place an emphasis on the 2010 Census and participate in events and initiatives that will raise overall awareness and ensure a full and accurate census; THAT, we will support census takers as they help our community complete an accurate count; THAT, we will create or seek opportunities to collaborate with other like-minded groups in our community by participating in Complete Count Committees and/or utilizing high-profile, trusted voices to advocate on behalf of the ?010 Census; THAT, public notice was given and numerous stakeholders and citizens participated in this public hearing process; THAT, this Resolution is necessary for the public health, safety, and welfare of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado.
