environmental policy and also would declare Apri120 to Apri125, 2009
"Earth Awareness Week".

7) Purpose: To discuss a draft "Environmental Policy and Earth
Awareness Week Resolution" that builds upon our environmental
sustainability quest and better memorializes Eagle County's environmental
policy. The Resolution includes additional statements in the "whereas"
clauses that are necessary to establish the framework in order for us for us to
seek ISO 14001 certification (an international standard of environmental
commitment) as an organization. The Resolution will also declare the week
of Apri119 - 25, 2009 as "Earth Awareness Week".

Schedule: The draft Environmental Policy and Earth Awareness Week
Resolution will briefly be discussed on April 13 with the Board to obtain
their input and see if we are comfortable with approving the Resolution on
April 14, 2009. The Resolution would be read on the record on April 14
followed by a 30 minute work session regarding the ECO Green Strategic
Plan.

BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION N0.2009 - C~ ~
RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF APRIL 19, 2009, AS
EARTH AWARENESS WEEK AND MEMORIALIZING EAGLE COUNTY'S
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
WHEREAS, the decisions we make as individuals and as an organization have direct and
indirect impacts on environmental sustainability; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Eagle County intend that the quality of our environment be
sustained for present and future generations; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Eagle County Commissioners considers preservation and ,
enhancement of the natural environment to be a top priority to ensure the health, safety, welfare,
and economic well-being of its citizens and therefore endeavors to continuously improve the
County's environmental performance; and
WHEREAS, Eagle County Government has adopted the "ECO-Green Initiative Strategic
Plan," which describes Eagle County's environmental sustainability goals, objectives and
commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions; preventing pollution; and promoting clean,
renewable energy; and
WHEREAS, periodic internal audits and management reviews of Eagle County's
environmental objectives and targets ensure that our actions are consistent with our policies, and
compliant with all applicable environmental regulations; and
WHEREAS, April 22, 2009 marks the thirty ninth (39~') anniversary of the first Earth
Day, a day established to increase environmental awareness on a global level and to encourage
individuals to reflect on how their actions effect the environment; and
WHEREAS, Eagle County desires to extend the local celebration of Earth Day through
the designation of Earth Awareness Week, during which Eagle County will communicate its
environmental policy with the community and provide additional community outreach,
awareness and education.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO:
THAT, the week of Apri119, 2009, be designated Earth Awareness Week.
THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that his Resolution is necessary
for the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of the County of Eagle, State of
Colorado.
MOVED, READ AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of the
County of Eagle, State of Colorado, at its regular meeting held this 13~` day of April, 2009.
