HomeMy WebLinkAboutR08-040 Designation Earth Awareness WeekCommissioner ~~C~c + ~ moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION N0.08 - ~ `u DESIGNATION of the week of April 20 - 26, 2008 as "Earth Awareness Week" WHEREAS, there is increased awareness of actions having direct and indirect impacts on our environment; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Eagle County and the surrounding areas are concerned that steps be taken to preserve the quality of the environment for present and future generations; and WHEREAS, April 22, 2008 marks the thirty eighth (38th) anniversary of the first Earth Day, which is a day established to increase people's awareness of the environment and the effect their actions have on the environment; and WHEREAS, there is an international, national and local effort to involve as many entities as possible in this anniversary celebration of Earth Day through special events, media coverage and local efforts; and WHEREAS, the purpose of Earth Awareness Week is to bring into focus within Eagle County the understanding that the preservation and improvement of our environment is the responsibility of each individual; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Eagle County has taken proactive measures through the implementation of our "ECO Green Initiative", an on- going commitment to make responsible decisions which reduce our own impact on the environment while providing leadership for environmental sustainability. WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Eagle County holds the preservation and enhancement of the natural environment as one of its highest priorities to ensure the health, safety, welfare, and economic well-being of its citizens. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT, the week of April 20 - 26, 2008 be designated Earth Awareness Week. THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that his Resolution is necessary for the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado. MOVED, READ AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado, at its regular meeting held this 17th day of April, 2008.
