HomeMy WebLinkAboutR98-061 Try Transit Day , • MO Commissioner 6;17:0 moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 98 - RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 18, 1998 AS EAGLE COUNTY'S TRY TRANSIT DAY WHEREAS, increased public investment in transit services provides the potential to create jobs and enhance business prosperity; and WHEREAS, public transportation is vital to the quality of life and economic well being of the citizens of Eagle County; and WHEREAS, workers, school children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and those unable to afford an automobile use public transportation to gain access to jobs, schools, medical facilities and other fundamental services; and WHEREAS, the nation, our communities, and our citizens face the risks to health and the environment that are brought on by automobile exhaust emission; and WHEREAS, traffic congestion that wastes productive time can be alleviated through the increased availability and use of public transportation and other forms of high occupancy, shared ride services; and • MO WHEREAS, the Eagle County Regional Transportation Authority, the American Public Transit Association, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Transit Administration, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the Association for Commuter Transportation, the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organization, the National Association of Counties, the National League of Cities, the Surface Transporta- tion Policy Project, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Community Transportation Association of America, have declared May 11 -15, 1998 to be TRY TRANSIT WEEK and have called upon all citizens to join in a nationwide effort to promote the transit's benefit, honor, transit employees and encourage new ridership; and WHEREAS, the Eagle County Board of County Commissioners hereby proclaim May 18, 1998, as Eagle County's Try Transit Day and calls upon the citizens of Eagle County to join in the nationwide effort to promote transit's benefits, honor transit employees, and encourage new riders. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT, the Eagle County of Board of County Commissioners proclaim May 18, 1998, as Eagle County's TRY TRANSIT DAY and call upon the citizens of Eagle County to examine their personal travel choices, to commute via transit or share the ride during TRY TRANSIT DAY and to become more active in education and advocacy efforts to promote the vital role of public transit in Eagle County and across the United States.
