HomeMy WebLinkAboutR01-136 opposing splitting of county into three districts during reapportionment processCommissioner moved adoption of th following Resolution BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2001- C3 OPPOSING THE SPLITTING OF EAGLE COUNTY INTO THREE DISTRICTS DURING THE REAPPORTIONMENT PROCESS WHEREAS, every ten years following the census, the boundaries of legislative districts are redrawn based upon changes in population; and WHEREAS, the Colorado Reapportionment Commission adopted the Preliminary House Plan on August 30, 2001; and WHEREAS, the Colorado Reapportionment Commission is currently gathering input on these preliminary plans; and WHEREAS, Eagle County is a unique community of interest with common economic, cultural and recreational ties; and WHEREAS, two of Eagle County's oldest mining and railroad communities with strong ties (Minturn and Red Cliff would be in two separate Districts. WHEREAS, the Preliminary House Plan divides Eagle County into three Districts, namely House Districts 56, 57, and 61; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: The Eagle County Board of County Commissioners hereby opposes the splitting of Eagle County into three districts during the reapportionment process and implores the Colorado Reapportionment Commission to take the necessary actions to reduce the number of Districts into which Eagle County is being divided, to one if possible.
