Commissioner ~ '1 (;)~ of the following Resolution: moved adoption BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2007--&?- A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE COLORADO FOREST MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 2007, ENCOURAGING THE CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION OF THE STATE OF COLORADO TO ACTIVELY CONTINUE THEIR UNIFIED SUPPORT FOR RAPID APPROV AL OF THE BILL, AND THANKING THE DELEGA TION FOR RECOGNIZING THE SERIOUSNESS AND URGENCY OF THE BARK BEETLE INFESTATION IN COLORADO WHEREAS, bark beetles have killed or are killing hundreds of thousands of acres of lodge pole pine and other conifer species in Eagle County and elsewhere in Colorado; and WHEREAS, the dead trees threaten the health, welfare and safety of the people of Eagle County in myriad foreseeable and unforeseeable ways, including "blow down" of dead trees by high winds, fire danger, and devastating, long-term impact on the visual beauty and ecological contribution of lodge pole pine and other conifer forests; and WHEREAS, the Colorado Congressional Delegation has recognized the magnitude of the problem, the lack of resources of local jurisdictions such as Eagle County to address the problem effectively, that policies of the federal land management agencies need to be altered to allow more immediate and long term actions to mitigate the consequences of the insect infestation and to provide for means to reduce the likelihood of such infestation in the future, and WHEREAS, it is urgent that the provisions of this Act become available as rapidly as possible in order to mitigate the injury to the health, welfare and safety of the people of Eagle County and to make use of the dead forest materials before decay renders them valueless. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO THAT: The Colorado Congressional Delegation is hereby urged to continue its vigorous and urgent support of prompt Congressional passage of The Colorado Forest Management Improvement Act of 2007. . . ..
