HomeMy WebLinkAboutR83-006 preserving air quality in upper eagle valleyRESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION No. RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO, IN SUPPORT OF DRAWING PUBLIC ATTENTION TO THE NEED FOR PRESERVING AIR QUALITY IN THE UPPER EAGLE RIVER VALLEY WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners has determined that an increase in local population has caused increases in the level and kinds of air pollutants and that reasonable attempts to reduce air pollution must be made; and WHEREAS, the movement of air through the Upper Eagle Valley is further restricted in cold times of the year; and WHEREAS, the use of fireplaces has contributed to the air pollution in the Upper Eagle Valley; and WHEREAS, this resolution does not apply to dwelling units which rely solely on fuel wood as their source of heat. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO, THAT: (1) The Eagle County Board of Commissioners designates the Presidents' Holiday Weekend on a trial basis as a fireplace smokeless weekend; (2) All residents and visitors of the developed areas of the Upper Eagle River Valley shall be encouraged to refrain from using their fireplaces during that weekend, in order to protect and improve the air quality in the Upper Eagle Valley.
