HomeMy WebLinkAboutR25-035 Designating the Month of April as Sexual Assult Awareness Month Docusign Envelope ID:F05863E0-BAE6-4056-BF08-E9269CE9E4F4 Commissioner Boyd moved adoption of the following proclamation: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2025 - 035 DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF APRIL AS SEXUAL ASSULT AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, a feeling of safety and security is pertinent to the wellbeing of the individual and of the community; and WHEREAS, sexual assault violates an individual's safety, humanity, and dignity; and WHEREAS,the problem of sexual violence affects Eagle County residents of all races, economic levels, educational backgrounds, family structures, religions, ages, genders and sexual orientations; and WHEREAS,over 53% of women and over 29%of men report experiencing sexual violence in their lifetime and most women and men across all sexual identities who have experienced sexual violence report that the person who harmed them was someone they knew; and WHEREAS,many of us know someone in our life who is a survivor of sexual harassment, assault, or abuse; and WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2025,provides an opportunity to bring awareness to the issues of sexual assault. The theme, Together We Act, United We Change highlights the importance of working together to address and prevent sexual abuse, assault, and harassment; and WHEREAS,the month provides the space to further build community safeguards and learn more about sexual assault and to recognize the many professionals, volunteers, and community members already dedicated to intervention and prevention of sexual violence; WHEREAS, in recognition of the impact that sexual assault has on the health and wellbeing of our community, we commend The Bright Future Foundation for Eagle County, The Sheriffs Office Victim Advocates and District Attorney's Office and many more partners for providing safety and security for victims through their prevention efforts, advocacy, crisis intervention, and recovery services; and NOW, THEREFORE,the Eagle County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim the month of April 2025 to be Sexual Assault Awareness Month and urges all citizens of Eagle County to remember the victims of sexual violence, empower survivors, and work together to eliminate sexual violence in our community. THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that this resolution is an important acknowledgement for the health and safety of the traveling public in the County of Eagle, State of Colorado.
