HomeMy WebLinkAboutR24-067 Support of the Passage of Eagle River Fire Protection Distirct Ballot Issue 6A Docusign Envelope ID:449CB21F-7858-46E1-BAEE-562CD5CED7A9 Commissioner McQueeney moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2024- 067 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE PASSAGE OF EAGLE RIVER FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT BALLOT ISSUE 6A WHEREAS, the Eagle River Fire Protection District("Eagle River Fire") is a quasi- municipal corporation and political subdivision of the State of Colorado and a duly organized and existing special district pursuant to Title 32, Article 1 of the Colorado Revised Statutes ("C.R.S."); and WHEREAS, Eagle River Fire provides critical emergency response services within portions of Eagle County, Colorado, including responding to fire-related incidents; responding to medical emergencies directed to 911; wildfire prevention and response; and furnishing fire prevention and public education services to residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, Eagle River Fire serves a population of approximately 25,000 residents, which population increases exponentially during tourism seasons, across approximately 186 square miles; and WHEREAS, C.R.S. § 32-1-1107 authorizes Eagle River Fire to levy a uniform sales tax and to collect, retain, and spend tax revenues received from such sales tax to carry out the objectives and purposes of Eagle River Fire,provided such sales tax is submitted to and approved by a majority of the eligible electors within the District; and WHEREAS,the Board of Directors of Eagle River Fire has determined that it is in the interest of Eagle River Fire, its residents, taxpayers, and the general public to levy a uniform sales tax to maintain fire equipment, furnish protective gear to emergency responders, upgrade wildland firefighting equipment, provide adequate staffing to respond to emergencies, and improve emergency response times; and WHEREAS, the November 2024 Ballot will contain Ballot Issue 6A, which, if approved by the voters, will enable Eagle River Fire to continue to furnish critical emergency response services within Eagle County; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the Fair Campaign Practices Act, C.R.S. § 1-45- 117(1)(b)(III)(A), Eagle County wishes to adopt a resolution in support of Ballot Issue 6A. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: Docusign Envelope ID:449CB21F-7858-46E1-BAEE-562CD5CED7A9 THAT,the Board hereby resolves as follows for the purpose of supporting the Eagle River Fire Ballot Issue 6A: 1. Passage of Ballot Issue 6A Benefits. The passage of Ballot Issue 6A will enhance Eagle River Fire's ability to maintain and improve emergency services, including the following: a. Responding to fire emergencies including wildfires,structure fires,and vehicle fires; b. Responding to all medical emergencies within the Eagle River Fire jurisdiction called into 911; c. Responding to incidents involving hazardous materials; d. Conducting technical rescues; e. Assisting with backcountry rescues; and f. Providing non-emergency services including public education, home safety assessments, and wildfire threat assessments. 2. Expression of Support for Ballot Issue 6A. Eagle County hereby expresses its support for the passage of Ballot Issue 6A by the voters in November 2024. Eagle County urges citizens to vote "Yes" on Ballot Issue 6A. 3. Severability. If any part, section, subsection, sentence,clause,or phrase of this Resolution is for any reason held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions. 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall take effect and be enforced immediately upon its approval by Eagle County.
