HomeMy WebLinkAboutR24-066 Opposing Proposition 127 in the Novemeber 2024 Election Docusign Envelope ID:A5A4DDCC-299C-449A-801C-8B333CB7F677 Commissioner McQueeney moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 2024 - 066 RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSITION 127 IN THE NOVEMBER 2024 ELECTION WHEREAS, Proposition 127 is a statewide ballot measure to prohibit the hunting of mountain lions,bobcats, and lynx; and WHEREAS, Eagle County believes that wildlife management should be decided by the experts entrusted with wildlife management; and WHEREAS, when wildlife management decisions are made by popular vote rather than scientific evidence, the expertise of wildlife management professionals is undermined; and WHEREAS, Proposition 127 undermines the authority of wildlife management professionals by replacing scientifically based management decisions with a blanket prohibition that does not account for regional and ecological differences, which could have unintended and damaging ecological consequences; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the Fair Campaign Practices Act, C.R.S. § 1-45- 117(1)(b)(III)(A),Eagle County wishes to adopt a resolution in opposition of Proposition 127; and WHEREAS, Eagle County encourages Colorado Parks and Wildlife to ensure ethical and sustainable management of mountain lions, bobcats, and lynx, based on scientific data and research. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT, the Board hereby opposes Proposition 127, recognizing that wildlife management decisions should be made by wildlife professionals to maintain the health of our mountain ecosystems and is not an appropriate ballot measure. THAT, if any part, section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase of this Resolution is for any reason held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions. THAT, This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its approval by Eagle County.
