BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION NO. 2024 - 039
RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING JUNE AS PRIDE MONTH IN EAGLE COUNTY
WHEREAS, individuals who are lesbian, gay,bisexual, transgender, and queer
("LGBTQ+") include individuals from all faiths, races, national origins, socioeconomic
statuses, education levels, and political beliefs;
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+people in the United States have made, and continue to make,
vital contributions to the United States and to the world in every aspect, including in the fields of
education, law, health, business, science, research, economic development, architecture, fashion,
sports, government, music, film, politics, technology, literature, and civil rights;
WHEREAS,LGBTQ+people in the United States serve, and have served, in positions
in the Federal Government and State and local governments, including as members of Congress,
Governors, mayors, and city council members;
WHEREAS,throughout much of the history of the United States, same-sex relationships
were criminalized in many States, and many LGBTQ+people in the United States were forced to
hide their LGBTQ+ identities while living in secrecy and fear;
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+people in the United States face disparities in employment,
healthcare, education, housing, and many other areas central to the pursuit of happiness in the
United States;
WHEREAS LGBTQ+ youth are at increased risk of—
(1) suicide;
(2)homelessness;
(3)becoming victims of bullying, violence, and human trafficking; and
(4) developing mental health illnesses, including anxiety and depression;
WHEREAS the LGBTQ+ community has faced discrimination, inequality, and violence
throughout the history of the United States;
WHEREAS LGBTQ+people in the United States have achieved significant milestones,
ensuring that future generations of LGBTQ+people in the United States will enjoy a more equal
and just society;
WHEREAS Many local organizations in Eagle County, such as Mountain Pride, in
partnership with many other local nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government agencies,
promote greater services and enhanced programs for the LGBTQ+ community, and hold the

annual Pride in the Park celebration in Avon to increase awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ+
individuals and issues;
WHEREAS, while society at large increasingly supports LGBTQ+ equality, it is
essential to acknowledge that the need for education and awareness remains vital to end
discrimination and prejudice;
WHEREAS, celebrating Pride Month promotes awareness of and provides support and
advocacy for Eagle County's LGBTQ+community.and is an opportunity to take action and
engage in dialogue to strengthen alliances, build acceptance, and advance equal rights; and
WHEREAS, Eagle County is committed to supporting visibility, dignity, and equity for
LGBTQ+people in our diverse community.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO:
THAT, the Board of Commissioners (the"Board") hereby declares the month of June
2024 as Pride Month in support of the LGBTQ+community.
THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that this Resolution is necessary
for the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of the County of Eagle, State of
Colorado.
