Job No. 14445W
Mr. Wenninger,
As requested, we observed the installation of the onsite wastewater system (OWS) for the subject site on
August 22, 2002. The system was designed under our Job No. 14445W, dated October 24, 2001 and
revised July 9, 2002.
The system includes the installation of one 1500-gallon, two -compartment, precast concrete septic tank
with an effluent filter on the outlet and two gravelless chamber -trenches. Serial distribution was used. The
trenches had one row of 12 chambers each fora total infiltrative area of 372 square feet. An as -built
drawing is included as Figure 1.
The components of the OWS were installed in conformance with our plans and specifications.
If there are questions or if we may be of further service, please call.

Parcel A, 65.05 acres

Eagle County, Colorado
Job No. 14445
Mr. Houlette,
As requested, we investigated subsurface conditions and designed separate onsite wastewater system
(OWS) for the proposed residence and caretaker unit. The subsurface investigation was performed on
'September 21, 2,001.
SM CONDITIONS
The lot 4s located m a rural residential area in. Eagle Count),, Colorado, wheae OWS are mq*,ed The
proposed drain field areas have a 20% - 25% slope to the east. There is a moderate cover of native
grasses, sagebrush, and scrub oak with scattered aspen trees.
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION'
A four-bedrom residence and a two -bedroom caretaker unit am proposed at the locations presenter) on
Figures 1 through 3. In accordance with the Individual Sewage Disposal System (1SDS) regulations, the
average sewage loading for a four -bedroom residence and two -bedroom caretaker unit. are 600 gallons per
day (GPD) and 300 GPD respectively, with 1.5 peaking factors of 900 GPD and 450 GPD. This loading
includes a dishwasher, garbage grinder, and washing machine. The structures will be served by a well
located 100+ feet from each drain field
SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
A subsurface iffv-estigation included drill* -six pmrcolation holes 21 to 324nehes deep and two proffle
holes at the locations indicated on Figures 2 and 3. Subsurface materials in Profile Hole 1 consisted. of 1
foot of topsoil underlain by -sandy, clay to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet. S ubs ufface rcraterWS in
the Profile Hole 2 consisted of 1 foot of topsoil underlain by sandy, clay to clayey sand with angular rock
fragments to the maximum depth explored of 3 feet. No ground water or bedrock was encountered..

Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 13 to 20 minutes per inch (MPI). The average percolation
rate is 16 MPI. Percolation data is presentee) in Table 1.
RECOl►3NMNDATIO-NS
I lie residence OWS imiallafim includes a septic tails and two chamber -type drain field trenches, at. the
locations presented on Figure 2. The OWS design is based on an average sewage load of 600 GPD and a
percolation rate of 16 MP1 The installation must include a 1500-gallon, two-comparirneM precast con-
crete septic tank, with an effluent filter on the outlet and two chamber -trenches, each with one row of 12
chambers, for a total of 24 chambers with serial distribution.
The caretaker unit OWS installation unit a septic tams and one chamber -type drain field trench, at the
locations presented on Figure 3. The design is based on an average sewage load of 300 GPD and a
percolation rate of 16 MPI. The installation must include a 1000-gallon,-hvo-coinpartment, precast
concrete septic tank, with an effluent filter on the outlet and one chamber -trench with 12 chambers.
Trenches should be installed no deeper than 4 feet. The trenches may be moved slightly to not
disturb large trees and to preserve as much vegetation as possible, but must be level If gravity
flow cannot be achieved our office should be contacted for details regarding pump specifications.
Movement over the drain Meld trenches during construction should be kept at a minimum to
minimize compaction of the receiving soils. The bottom of each trench must be scarified with a pick,
shovel, or backhoe bucket teeth prior to the addition of tht chambers.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
The,inner must reahzt an {3WS is different from public. sewer service and must assume the responsi-
bility for maintenance of the OWS. The system is relatively maintenance free, but the owner must have
the septic tanks pumped. In the absence of a monitoring program, the septic tar* should lie pumped and
the effluent filter cleaned every two years. There are daily considerations, such as not putting plastic or
other nonbiodegradable material into the OWS. Water use must be monitored so toilets are not allowed to
run when seals malfunction. To illustrate the point, a running toilet can comune in excess of 1000 GPD.
A loading of 1000 GPD could flood and irreparably harm the OWS.
The loading from the backwash of a water softener may be harmful to the OWS. A separate drywell
should be constructed for the backwash waste, if a softener is instOed. Chemically treated water from a
swimming pool or spas should not be introduced to the OWS.
UNHATIONS
An OWS design requires installation by a licensed contractor. Our investigation, layout, design and
recommendations are based on data. submitted. If conditions different from those described in this report
are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the effoU on the proposed OWS. If the health depart-
ment modifies this design, we should be contacted to evaluate the impact on the performance of the
OWS.
All construction is to be in accordance with the ISDS regulations. Pipe type and size, burial requirements,
septic tank construction, and other specifications, which are not depicted in our report, are to conform to
the requirements of the ISDS regulations. The installer of the systern is to have demonstrated knowledge
