The system was designed under our Job No. 14770W, dated April 15, 2002. An addendum to the OWS design was provided on April 25, 2002. The system includes a 2000-gallon, two -compartment, pr ecast concrete septic tank and five serially distributed gravelless chamber -trenches with four feet of imported sand filter material. Trenches `A' have one row of 15 chambers, and trenches `B' have one row of 14 chambers, for a total infiltrative area of 1131.5 square feet. An as -built drawing is included as Figure 1. Church and Associates recommended 1) a dosed drain field due to the imported sand filter material and 2) an effluent filter. The homeowner decided against both of these items and is assuming the risks involved. The components of the OWS were installed in conformance with our plans and specifications. If there are questions or if we may be of further service, please call. Sincerely, CHTJRCH and Associates, Inc. Edward O. You have requested the reimovsl o, the dosing device from the -OXNTS. Based on the m„xh larger size req,,fired by Eagle County, we understand your desire to delete the dosing siphon. Based on the EPA Design Marcum the LTAR. for a 28 MPI percolation rate is 0.6 gallons per square foot per day. Using the LIAR, a minimum of 73 chambers is required. Instead of four trenches with. 12 chambers, the installation will require five trenches, three --rith 15 chambers and two with 14 Chambers. An alternative is six trenches with 5 trenches with 12 chambers and one trench with 13 chambers. The trenches must have four f6et of irapoited sand filter material. The sand should be compacted) due to the absence of a. dosing device. `,ode believe there is the potential for differential settlement of the sand in the trenches without the dosing siphon, We are also concerned about water quality from bio-zone plugged serial distribution trenches required ley Eagle County. With the recognition of the potential issues; you crust beware of risk with the design. if there are questions or if we canoe of further service, please esii, CHURCH & Associates O. Clw.nch, P.E. In either case the distribu- tion should be checked after 1 year to corm even distribution. Movement over the drain field trench bottom during construction should be kept at a. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE The owner rnnist Malize an OWS is dzferem from public sewer service, and must assume the responsibility for r intenance of the OWS. The system is relatively maintenance free, but the owner must have the septic tanks pumped. In the absence of a monitoring lnogrW4 the septic tanks ,should be pump and the effluent filter cleaned every two years. There are daily considerations, such as not putting plastic or other nonbiode- gradable material into the OWS. Water use must be monitored so toilets axe not allowed to run when --- zk md&nction. To illu the point, a namingam toilet can consurrle ►n exams of 1000 GPD. A loading; of 1000 GPD could flood and ioreparably harm the OWS. The loading from the backwash of a water softener may be harmful to the OWS. A separate dryweli should be constructed for the backwash waste, if a softener is installed. Chemically treated water from at swmming pool or -spas should not be i€ttroduced to the OWS. An OWS desiW rues installation by a contract©r who is exprienl itr its installation Our investigation, layout, design and recommendations are based on data submitted_ If subsurface conditions considerably different from those descried m this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the effect on the proposed OWS- If the health department snakes modifications to this design, we should be contacted to evaluate the impact on the performance of the OWS. All construction is to be in accordance with the ISDS regulations. Pipe type and size, burial requirements, septic tank owistruction, and other sta Lions, which are not depicted in our report, are to conform to the requirements of the ISDS regulations_ The installer of the system is to have demonstrated knowledge of the Eagle County ISDS regulations and requirerfxents.
