Project No. 961.02 - Permit No. 2130E 01
For the repair. of the leachfield at 2428 Casteel Creek Road, Casteel Creek Ranch, Eagle
Cowity, Colorado, Eighty Standard Infiltrator Chambers were installed in five trenches, with the
trenches placed between the trenches of the old leachfield. Where was a minimum of 6 feet
separation between the trenches. The infiltrators were connected with serial distribution. The
new leachfield was re connected to the effluent line corning from the main residence.
Final inspection of the inspection ports was not performed.

Dear Kyle:
At the request from Marc Trudeau with Thomas and Warner Construction, on August 9,
13, and 15, 2001, we visited the construction site at Casteel Creek Ranch. The purpose of our site
visit was to observe the leachfield for the main residence.
It appears that the leachfield that was completed and inspected on August 26, 1998, had
been damaged by construction -activities. Steve Jewett -had -the ends -of all the -infiltrator tronehes
open for an -inspection, We found that due --to heavy traffic, over the leachfield,-the infiltrators
.have been pushed- into the ground and-tne infiltrative area of the leachfield has been damaged and
reduced. The backfill over the leachfield is greater than the recommended three feet, and -the ,
ground surface over the leachfield is very irregular with many low spots that can accumulate
surface runoff .and .overload: the system.. Also, .water -from the main residence; from drains and =
uses other than the ones included in the design capacity of the system (roof drains, terrace, deck,
etc..,) have been draining into the leachfield.
Based on the condition of the leachfield, we recommend that a new leachfield be
constructed. ]Five, new trenches should be excavated between the existing trenches with
infiltrators. The. distance between the .existing trenches with infiltrators is 11 feet center to- center,
which will allow to safely construct five new trenches into undisturbed soil. These trenches
should be 24 inches deep. The -bottom of the trenches -should be raked. -Do not constructthe' new
trenches in wet soil. Eighty, ne infiltrator camber should -be constructed in the clew trenches,
while the old ones are abandoned. The infiltrators will be connected with serial` distribution.
Inspection ports should be constructed in the first and last infiltrator of each trench.
New type of discharge should be provided for the drainage needs from the main
residence, which are not part of .the design criteria for the. septic system -The grade above -the
leachfield should be such as to provide rapid runoff awayfrom the leachfield; and not accumulate
on top of the leachfield.
Please contact t Ak%ty Environmental --Health Department for a Repair Permit.,

Dear Kyle:
At the request from Bart Thomas with Thomas and Warner Construction, on September
1 S, 2001, we met at the construction site for the main residence, at Casteel Creek Ranch. The
purpose of our meeting was to evaluate the interior sources of wastewater connected to the
leachfield for the main residence.
Shane was working can an as -built drawing of all the interior and exterior sources of
wastewater connected to the leachficld for the main house. During a telephone conversation with
Shane (this week), he informed us that he has completed his report and copies were forwarded to
your office. We have not received a copy of that report.
,As discussed during the September 181" meeting, I talked with Mr. Ray Marry of the
Eagle County Environmental Health Department, about the allowed and disallowed sources of
wastewater for the leachfield, and they are;
Allowed sources of wastewater from residential uses: dishwasher, washing
machine, shower/bath, toilet, kitchen sink, lavatories, and floor drains froi-n a
mechanical room,
0 Disallowed sources of wastewater: pool discharge, Water treatment system, garage
drain, roof drains, patio drains, etc... (And any wastewater that will increase the,
maximum design flog or deposit unknown substances that may affect the function
and durability of the system.)
Garage drains should have an oil and sand trap from where the water can discharge to a
daylight location. Drains from patios and roof drains can discharge by gravity to a daylight
location -away from the limits ofbackfill for the foundation.
It is recommended that the wastewater from the pool and .from the water treatment system
discharge to a lined detention pond with a spillway, where chemicals and minerals can settle
dog°m and the water can overflow overland..

Dear Mr. Levine:
RE: Inspection of Septic System Installation
Levine Residence

Project Na. 96102 - Permit No.1750-98
At the request of Mr. Curt McDonald, the superintendent from Structural Associates, on August
26 and October 21, and November 27, 1998, we visited the construction site on Lot 2, Casteel Creek
Ranch, Eagle County, Colorado. The purpose of our site visits was to observe the installation of the septic
system.
They installed the system in overall compliance with the septic system design, Drawing No.
96102SD,DWG, last revised August 5, 1998.
The system was connected to the main residence as shown on the above named drawing. They
installed 2500-gallon, two compartments, a precast, concrete septic tank. From the tank to the leachfieid
was about 1200 feet, with cleanouts every 100 feet. As -built drawings by the installer Logan Craig, Inc_,
showing the layout and the cleanouts between the buildings and the septic tank, and from the septic tank
to the leachfield is included with this Ietter.
Eighty Standard infiltrator Chambers were installed in five trenches with 16 Infiltrators each. The
infiltrators were connected with serial distribution. In the last infiltrator of each trench, inspection ports
were installed. Horizontal distance from center to center of the trenches, was 11 feet or more. All piping
was SDR-35, 4-inch PVC. The depth of the trenches was three feet. The soil profile in the trenches was
consistent with the soil exposed in the profile hole.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

RE: Septic System Design
Lot 2, Casteel Creek Ranch
Eagle County, Colorado
Project No. 96102
Dear Mr, Levine:
This letter is a supplement to the Septic System Design, dated January 16, 1998, for the Main
Residence on Lot 2., Casteel Creek Ranch, Eagle County, Colorado. As shown on the design drawing, the
Percolation Tests and the Profile Boring, done by HP-Geoteehnical, Inc., are outside the proposed location of
the leachfield. To comply with the Eagle County Environmental Health Department Requirements for
Individual Sewage Disposal Systems, the soil conditions at the proposed leachfield site must be verified prior
to the installation of the system. The verification will be done by excavating an eight -foot profile hole below
the proposed leachfield.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely, fi

RE: Lot 2, Casteel Creek Ranch, tax parcel #2105-302-01-002.
On July 2, 1993, this division performed a percolation test for
the above referenced property. The percolation rate was
determined to be 45 minutes per inch. A soils report was
performed by Chen Northern Inc., and clay soils were found to
persist throughout the observed 8 feet.
Based on this information, a conventional system may be installed
at this site. However, there is the possibility of varying
subsurface soils that were not evident at the time of this
investigation. Further evaluation may be necessary if excavation
reveals conditions different than described in Chen's soil
report.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 328-8755.
Sincerely,
,-z ea,

PERCOLATION TESTING
Percolation tests were conducted on the subsoils near the downhill, northwest
corner of the building area to evaluate the feasibility of an infiltration septic disposal
system. One profile boring (Boring 1) and 3 percolation holes (P-1, P-2 and P-3) were
drilled at locations shown on Fig. 1. The percolation test holes were drilled with
6-inch diameter auger and were soaked with water one day prior to testing. The soils
exposed in the percolation holes are similar to those exposed in Boring 1 shown on
Fig. 2 and consist of about 1 foot of topsoil overlying clayey to very clayey sand and
gravel with cobbles. Bedrock was encountered below about 7 feet in the profile boring.
The percolation test rates, summarized in Table II, varied from about 20 to 40 minutes
per inch with an average rate of about 27 minutes per inch. The site appears suitable
for a conventional infiltration septic disposal system.
LIMITATIONS
This study has been conducted in accordance with generally accepted
geotechnical engineering, principles and practices in this area at this time. We make no
other warranty either expressed or implied. The conclusions and recommendations
submitted in this report are based upon the data obtained from the exploratory borings
drilled at the locations indicated on Fig. 1, the proposed type of construction and our
experience in the area. Our findings include interpolation and extrapolation of the
subsurface conditions identified at the exploratory borings and variations in the
subsurface conditions may not become evident until excavation is performed. If
conditions encountered during construction appear to be different from those described
in this report, we should be notified at once so reevaluation of the recommendations
may be made.
This report has been prepared for the exclusive use by our client for design
purposes. We are not responsible for technical interpretations by others of our "
information. As the project evolves, we should provide continued consultation and

field services during construction to review and monitor the implementation of our
recommendations, and to verify that the recommendations have been appropriately
interpreted. Significant design changes may require additional analysis or modifications
of the recommendations presented herein. We recommend on -site observation of
excavations and foundation bearing strata and testing of structural fill by a
representative of the geotechnical engineer.

Ivalues are an indication of the relative density or consistency of the
subsoils. Depths at which the samples were taken and the penetration
resistance values are shown on the Logs of Exploratory Borings, Figs. 4, 5 and
6. The samples were returned to our laboratory for review by the project
engineer and testing.
SUBSOIL CONDITIONS
Site 1, Brereton/Laetsch Building Site: The subsoil conditions
encountered within Holes 1 and 2 at the site are shown graphically on
Fig. 4. The subsoils consist of about 1 foot of topsoil overlying very stiff,
silty slightly gravelly clays. Weathered siltstone/sand stone bedrock was
encountered at 14 feet within both borings.
Laboratory testing performed on samples obtained from the borings
included natural moisture content, dry density, gradation and liquid and
plastic limits. Swell -consolidation test results shown on Fig. 8 indicate the
sandy clays to possess a moderate compressibility under light to moderate
surcharge loading. The laboratory testing is summarized in Table I.
No free water was encountered in the borings at the time of drilling and
the subsoils were moist.
Site 2, Bell Building Site: The subsoil conditions encountered within
Holes 3 and 4 at the site are shown graphically on Fig. 5. The subsoils
consist of about 112 foot of topsoil overlying medim hard weathered claystone/
sandstone within Hole 3, and clayey gravels with cobbles or small boulders in
Hole 4. Sandstone bedrock was encountered at 3 112 feet in Hole 3 and at
9 feet in Hole 4. Drilling refusal was encountered in the sandstone deposits
at 16 feet.
