Box 947 Eagle, CO 8163I Re: Septic System Analysis 1^, Lot 9B, Colorow at Squaw Creek = Eagle County, Colorado Project No. 97-0412G Gentlemen: Inter -Mountain Engineering is pleased to have provided you with the engineering services as you requested. The purpose of the field investigations was to determine. if it was possible to construct a conventional leach field at the site. We have been furnished with a copy of the letter prepared by Scott D. Hum of Eagle County regarding the Minor Type A Subdivision of the Lot which outlines concerns regarding the feasibility of a Individual Sewage Disposal System (I.S.D.S.) for the proposed Lot 9B. Concerns regarding the leach field were primarily caused by the failure of an old leach field, which served the residence located on Lot 9 (proposed 9A). The old leach field had failed and the construction of a new I.S.D.S, system was required by Eagle County. The new system consisted of a new septic tank(s) and a new chamber absorption field, which consisted of approximately 504 linear feet of infiltrator chambers. The location of the septic tank(s) and the new absorption field are illustrated on the attached site plan. The major anticipated difficulty with regard to the installation of the septic absorption field is the relatively shallow -bedrock stratum in the area. Previous experience by Inter - Mountain Engineering suggests that the bedrock in the area is shallow. Colorado and Eagle County regulations regarding I. S.D.S. require that at least a 4-foot separation between the bedrock and the bottom of the absorption field. 8392 Continental Divide Road, Suite #107 • Littleton, Colorado 80127 • Phone: 303/948-6220 • Fax: 303/948-6526 77 Metcalf Road, #200 • Box 978 • AvOn, Colorado 81620 • Phone: 970/949-5o72 • From Denver Direct: 893-1,531 1'd 8996-6b6 (OL6) siompoo❑ ueadojn3 ego:Rn ❑❑ 2n ion Iq Septic System Evaluation 'Knight Planning Lot 913, Colorow Subdivision Page 2 Inter -Mountain Engineering subcontracted Nottingham Excavating to performed exploratory test pits several areas down gradient from proposed building envelope. Several test pits were performed on December 29, 1998 at locations to the west of the building envelope as illustrated on the attached site plan. The test pits were performed using a small trackhoe. The area had approximately 16 inches of snow at the time the test pits were performed. A summary of the soil profiles are shown on the test pit records, Three soil test pits were dug to help determine soil types and depth to bedrock materials. The soils encountered in Test Pit No. 1 consisted of a brown sandy SILT which contained variable amounted of sandstone cobbles to a depth of 6 feet. The soils encountered in Test Pit No. 2 were the same as encountered in Test Pit No. 1. The soils encountered in Test Pit No. 3 consisted of a brown, slightly sandy, clayey, SILT to sandy CLAY. The percolation tests were performed on January 13, 1998 in the vicinity of the proposed absorption field, refer to site plan. The percolations was performed to help determine water infiltration rates of the soils. Three 6-inch diameter percolation test holes were drilled using a 6-inch diameter augger to depths of approximately 30 inches. The approximate locations for the percolation test holes are shown on the site plan, refer to Figure No. 1. The test holes were filled with water 24 hours prior to the actual testing to allow the soils to inundate. The percolation results are shown in the attached table. The percolation rates range from approximately 27 min/inch-to.,90 minlinch,, Although the percolation test holes and profile pits were dug to obtain a reasonable accurate determination of the absorption field conditions, variations in the subsurface conditions are also possible. Variations that exist beneath the absorption field may become evident during the excavation The site appears to be able to support a septic system in the area shown. Multiple or alternative locations of the test pits does not appear to be possible because of site boundaries, gradients, and areas of shallow bedrock. Alternative site's or locations for the absorption field may result in a mound type absorption field design. The recommendations provided herein are based on experience in the area and from the on -site field exploration. The information obtained form the field exploration and laboratory testing reflects subsurface conditions only at the specific locations at the particular times designated. Subsurface conditions at other locations and times may differ from the conditions at these locations. The extent of any variations between the test borings may not appear evident until excavation is performed. However, only minor variations are expected. If during construction conditions appear to be different, this office should be advised so reevaluation of the recommendations may be made. ,-'d 9996-606 tOL63 sMiampooM ueado,an3 ESO =BO 00 20 400 0 scptic Systcm Evaluation 'K,ttight Planning Lot 9B, Colorow Subdivision Page 3 This document was prepared for the exclusive use of Knight Planning Services.
