Re: Individual Sewage Disposal: System Permit No 2013=00.
Moore residence,1187 Gore Trail, Edwards, CO
Dear,Heather;
This is to request approval of revisions to the previously approved septic system plan associated
with the above referenced permit. On August 8, 2000, two soil profile,1oles were dug to -
supplement 'information obtained from the original soils report. These profile holes were dug `
adjacent to the proposed septic system leach field as shown on the enclosed plan. (also see
page 3)
Profile hole #2: 2 ft. deep; 072 ft. very dry sandy, silty topsoil, 2 ft. weathered bedrock. "✓
Profile hole #3: 7.5 ft. deep; .0-7 ft. very dry sandy, silty topsoil, 777.5,ft. moist silts,
sands and weathered bedrock, 7:5 ft. weathered bedrock.
Based. on this information, as bedrocks dips downslope, it is expected that bedrock will be at
downhill side of the 3`d row of infiltrators:
+8. ft. on the
1"► ( Vel,; i GL 1st i
In addition to the soil profile holes, a two .hour percolation test was `conducted to verify the
results of the previous test. We were concerned that, since the soil has 7' or more depth of topsoil
which was extremely:dry (due to the extremely dry summer), the previous percolation test data
may have been influenced by wetting of,the dry soil.'. Although pre -wetted, the previous/initial:
holes were dry in '15-20 minutes (and no water was available on site to refill). Therefore a new
percolation test was performed where a hole was pre -wetted and refilled twice before starting the
actual test. The test took two hours to complete and 45, minutes of data was obtained before the
hole went dry. The data indicates that the percolation rate stabilized at 4.6`min/inch for the last
20 minutes of the two hour test. "Given this information, we feel comfortable in reducing the
length of infiltrators as shown on our previous plan, which is still based on a 25% reduction for
15min/in, or 30% for the 1..2 gpd/sf.
The following are revised computations to; substantiate the reduced length of the leach field:

GENERAL NOTES
1. Contact Alpine Engineering, Inc. at least 48 hours prior to installing any septic system
improvement.
j
2. Compact sewer trenches to 90% standard proctor density, or per soils engineer's
recommendations.
3. Provide risers on septic tanks to finish grade.
4. Comply with all Eagle County and Colorado Department of Health regulations regarding
septic system installation.
5. Provide inspection portals per Eagle County regulations.
6. Provide minimum 5ft horizontal distance between trees and sewer lines and septic tanks,
7. Field align sewer to avoid existing trees, buildings and structures.
8. Provide 4ft minimum cover and 2% minimum slope from building to septic tank.
J
9. Provide cleanouts at bends.
10. Gravity sewer line to be SDR 35.
j
I
11. Provide 6ft minimum between trench walls.
12. Install Infiltrator system per manufacturer recommendations and Eagle County Health
j
Department requirements.
13. Do not begin sewer construction prior to notification of Alpine Engineering, Inc.,
j
Glenn Palmer 970-926-3373. The septic system is also to be inspected by Alpine
Engineering, Inc. prior to backfill. Contact them for this purpose as well.
14. We recommend that the disposal field be seeded after installation of the subsurface
_
disposal system. A good native grass cover will promote evapotranspiration from the
j
field. We recommend using a seed mix such as Foothills, Posture or Prairie mix j
a
available at local feed and seed stores. These mixes do not require irrigation and
develop- a= --growth of - 10 to-15 inches - high. --No automotiC7 sprinkler system should be
installed above the disposal field.
15. The Owner `must realize an onsite sewage disposal system is considerably different from
public sewer services. The Owner must be aware of and assume the responsibility for
continued maintenance of the system. We recommend the pumping of the septic tanks
at the end of the first year to monitor sludge accumulation and a minimum of two year,
afterward. There are also daily considerations; such as not putting plastic or other non -
biodegradable material down the sewage disposal system. Also, water used must be
ij
carefully monitored so toilets are not allowed to run when seals malfunction. To illustrat
the point, it should be noted that a running toilet would consume in excess of 1000
gallons per day if allowed to run. Excessive loading (such as from running toilets) will
flood and irrevocably harm the system and stress the onsite well (if present).
16. We caution you against installation of a water softener. The high levels of salt from the
i
backwash of a water softener is detrimental to all onsite sewage disposal s 9 P Y stems and a
separate drywell should be constructed for backwash waste if a water softener is
installed. No landscaping or plastic sheeting (or similar) should be installed over the
disposal field that will reduce the evapotranspiration from the field.
17. Provide minimum 10ft separation between water and sewer lines, or encase per
Colorado Department of Health regulations.
